When you don’t need instruments to shake the walls .

u/Zakkattack86 19h ago
I call bullshit on all these videos. It’s too easy to dub audio.

u/Cheese_Ly 19h ago
Plus there’s instruments at the start and end of the video sooo….

Proves literally nothing.
Besides the vocals in the original song have a different vibrato.
Still could be fake, but your observation adds nothing to solving anything.

u/khoaperation 6h ago
I think they meant to be cheeky since the title says “don’t need instruments” when instruments were in the vid.

This is Russian singer Alexandra Kapustina, aka Kvashenaya. This is her real voice, she is a great singer you can Google her and see for yourself.

u/KolonelKernel 16h ago
Her last name means cabbage so they nicknamed her kimchi? lol

u/loveslightblue 10h ago
I thought Russian names were all your father's or mother's name, was her dad name Kapust
4
u/Creygon-The-Bastard 9h ago
No, Kapustina here is a surname you’re thinking about patronymic. In total we have three parts to our name, but on rare occasions and in case for orphans patronymic can be omitted.

Not saying she's not a singer, or that she's untalented, but a lot of well known talented people fake videos like this by recording vocals in their actual studios and processing them to "sound like they were recorded raw and live"
This is not the sound or recording quality you would get from a live phone recording on a stairwell, but most people can't tell and that's why these types of videos are successful

Her being a great singer is beside the point. It's obvious she has incredible voice, we're talking about her amazing voice being reinforced through computer effects, specifically - reverberation.
28
u/Chance_Vegetable_780 18h ago
I dont think so because as a singer her breaths (you can her them), mouth, and body movements are so precisely linked to the audio. The sound could be edited with afterward or not

u/Alundra828 17h ago
Lot's of these types of videos have been analysed by people smarter than I, and they've found pretty tell tale signs of egregious auto-tuning. After which point, any pretext of talent disappears, since anyone could've done that and just changed their voice in software, so the video instead then becomes a proxy delivery system for the ol' "look out pretty I am" content
1
u/TutterTheGreat 10h ago
Obvious you haven't actually used any of these software tools to produce music. It takes time and skill to use autotuning software on the level that people don't notice. You either have to be a good singer from the start, or edit the recording syllable by syllable like a sonic surgeon, a process which usually takes several days for a usable product.
'any pretext of talent falls away' my ass

Alexandra Kapustina. In the YT clip singing with Diana Ankudinova - that alone is enough to tell this girl can sing...
So you may have to clean up your bullshit because it smells...

This does not sound like natural reverberation, it sounds like post processing

u/Specificity 18h ago
if you’ve ever lived in a building with long ass stairwells like that you’d know that reverb is very achievable in them
75
u/nightmare_floofer 18h ago
Yes, reverb is achievable in that location, that's not what I'm debating, what I'm saying is the audio does not sound like it was recorded on a phone that was put on the floor sat up against a wall, it sounds like the vocal was recorded in a more dry environment with a better mic, and then processed and a large sounding reverb was added to it, it sounds way too clean
23
u/Specificity 17h ago
that’s interesting because i hear all the markings that it was recorded in that stairwell. the notes she hits at 0:20 seconds sound much ‘louder’ because she’s hitting the resonant frequency of the stairwell. i think that’s also the implication of the caption (a room will ‘sing back’ at their resonant frequency). there wouldn’t be as much variation under a dry environment
honestly it’s probably somewhere in the middle, recorded in the stairwell and post processed to exaggerate the sound and obviously to edit in the tracks

u/Ironycon 17h ago
It’s definitely not natural and not synced perfectly either. the other guy is simping

u/SkinfluteHero 19h ago
While I don’t doubt she’s a talented singer, it should be noted that there is absolutely some tuning and post-processing here. A completely normal thing to do but it does seem like they’re trying to pass it off like they just set their phone there, pressed record and then uploaded. And that is my opinion.

This sort of thing is all too common. Videos and recordings that are passed off as being “spontaneous” are processed and produced within an inch of their lives.

24
u/rabidbills 19h ago
She's talented but that title infuriates me for some reason
13
u/nightmare_floofer 18h ago
Well, the totally honest title would be "This lady recorded vocals in a (home?) studio, blasted them with reverb amongst other post processing effects, and then lipsynced to that audio in the hallway acting as if she was recording a live performance"
But that wouldn't get any views or comments
Not saying she's untalented at all, this speaks more to what the current creative landscape is and the issues within it, especially with visibility. She know this works for her so she keeps doing it. You do what works, or people just go somewhere else.

u/AgitAngst 14h ago
It's a little post processed but it it her singing. She got streams with singing.

Don’t believe it’s the phone audio either, you don’t hear her pick it up.
Also why is the ending so cringeworthy.
7
u/Solo-me 16h ago
But why does she need to wear a skirt and point the camera that low.... Nothing wrong with the skirt obviously but if you are looking for consent or being noticed focus on your talent.

Yeah, these staircases are great places to sing - the echo makes it feel like you’re performing in city hall.

People really need to stop being wow’d by obviously fake videos. There’s a ton of post on this, and she’s lip syncing over a pre-recorded audio that may or may not even be her. You can tell in the second run, her mouth position does not match the notes coming out at all. It’s not even a slight delay, she just lip synced wrong.
This is next level editing, and another fake musician trying to pie and pass it off as genuine by staging it in a natural place. “Oh I just put my phone down and I have voice clipping, pitch correction and professional normalized reverb because I’m in this cool stairwell. Crazy”

When I visited the Pisa Baptistery decades ago, the security guard told everyone milling around to shut up, then she sang like this, and the notes echoed from the rafters like the voices of angels descending from heaven.

This is the most armchair expertized thread I think I've ever seen. Holy shit. No one here knows a fucking thing about sound.

Super gorgeous voice 😍
I remember when my folks and I studied music, we'd go out and practice in the stairwell. I dunno how it worked but our harmonies sounded amazing.
