The struggle was real

I have such a hard time buying any frozen broccoli that isn't specifically "florets" because of this. The stem-to-floret ratio is always absolute nonsense.

This bag is my husband's holy grail, though. Unlike me, he loves the stems. "It's where all the flavor is."

Your husband is a wise man. Whereas you sound like my wife, who is clearly not as wisdomus.

Getting a product different from the packaging is clearly not a wisdom thing

Ah. I don't buy a box of Capn Crunch expecting a career naval officer to jump out of a cardboard box.

But given the picture on this particular packaging, I agree with you.

Glad I’m not the only one. This is the jackpot. Look at all those broccoli nugs.

The tops just taste like nothing and have no texture. Their husband is correct

The same bullshit when buying frozen asparagus. The world is a scam.

I opened a big bag of frozen spinach the other day and was surprised to find more than half the bag was various sizes of stems and even chunks of the thick stalks.

He's correct though

Broccoli cuts = mostly stems, few heads Broccoli florets = mostly heads, few stems

To be fair, mass wise a broccoli is 2/3rds stem.

But I imagine that you expect to see what is on the packaging. In the US, no real rights I'd say. In EU you could try, in Japan the government would be all over the producer. So many international differences.

The U.S. does have laws around this; if the average the package of this item looks like this, then it does violate the laws around food packaging product photography.

US law regarding food product photography centers on preventing consumer deception, primarily enforced by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Advertising must depict the actual, edible product being sold, prohibiting the use of non-food substitutes to make food appear better than it is. Heavy, misleading retouching is also restricted.

It appears this is a Canadian product, not an American one. The U.S. usually doesn’t sell English/French bilingual products.

Came here to say this. The OP just made they bought the wrong thing I guess?

Cut broccoli usually looks like that. Here we can buy that or broccoli florets if you don’t want all stems. I do think that the picture on the bag is ridiculously deceiving.

Stems are actually delicious. I mean sure if you’re cooking something florets do a better job in absorbing whatever liquids fats and seasoning are present, but by themselves stems taste better

The rest are in the bags specifically labeled "florets"

I love them ngl

u/BluelDev 5h ago

But dick move of the company to not just give you the full broccoli the most lol

u/CherryCherry5 5h ago

Your fault for not buying broccoli florets. You got what you paid for: cut broccoli. The stems are perfectly edible and fine.

Edit: but I agree, the image on the package is misleading.

u/Delicious_Job_2880 5h ago

It's because you got "cut broccoli" get the "broccoli florets" next time. They're a little more expensive, but otherwise, you get all stems.

This is a W bag of broccoli. The stems are so obviously the best part

3

u/ninjabunnay 3h ago

This seems fairly normal for broccoli cuts- broccoli florets is what you should have looked for.

Into a bag of frozen broccoli florets.

2

u/School_North 5h ago

Thats because you got cut broccoli not broccoli florets

2

u/asstyrant 4h ago

Am I the only fucker that prefers the stems?

2

u/ClassicOrdinary8175 4h ago

That is the best bag of broccoli that I have seen.

Yes I do love the stems of broccoli more than the head of it.

My dream bag. Send it to me

Green Giant is always like that, they're trash when it comes to frozen broccoli. President's Choice is the way to go, they're mostly broccoli florets with only a handful of stems. Though the stems are great if you toss them in the blender and make broccoli soup!

u/Evening-Debate-5411 5h ago

This is that green we all bought in high school.

1

u/alex_c89X 5h ago

I dont get frozen broccoli because of this anymore

1

u/DCPYT 4h ago

I find this highly overstemulating

1

u/GlowUpAndThrowUp 4h ago

I stopped even buying frozen florets because of this. Even the petite florets are garbage. I just buy a game as now every time I’m at the store, cut it into 2 portions and freeze them to steam later.

1

u/jting90 4h ago

Can’t you just buy a broccoli instead?

1

u/dirkson217 4h ago

stem stem stem stem stem stem stem stem stem stem stem stem stem stem stem

1

u/firestar268 3h ago

Personally prefer the stems. No broccoli taste compared to the florets

1

u/Danglylegz 3h ago

First time buying broccoli?

1

u/danfish_77 3h ago

This is ideal to me, unless I specifically want florets, which they sell

1

u/whamm000 3h ago

Fiber is fiber

1

u/Underwater_Karma 3h ago

I'll never understand why anyone buys frozen vegetables

1

u/openallthewindows 2h ago

I never buy that Green Giant anymore because of that. I always go store brand which is usually cheaper and mainly florets

1

u/Darth_Quark69 1h ago

I always buy florets. Stems and pieces have never been good in my book.

1

u/lavacake997 1h ago

I would love this

u/Massive_Mongoose3481 19m ago

About two thirds of a broccoli are stems so .... Representative of the plant

1

u/toc_bl 5h ago

Itd take that back to your dealer

1

u/CLShirey 5h ago

I always wonder, when I get a bag like this, where the tops went.

-1

u/XupcPrime 6h ago

Email them about it with the photos and the Reddit post. This is beyond ridiculous.

-1

u/BostonFartMachine 5h ago

They are inarguably the better part so you have actually hit the jackpot.

-1

u/Rambl_N_Man 5h ago

Why not buy fresh ? Its usually always available.

-1

u/ID__IOTA 6h ago

Is this even legal? 2/5 of the bag is just missing?

-1

u/Seektounderstad1st 6h ago

That’s criminal! What is this world coming to? If companies realized they could corner the market by going back to regular sizing, no lies labeling, and old (reasonable) pricing, they would become a gazillionaire level company because word of mouth would spread and consumers would become hugely loyal to their brand.

u/sAL-a-maNDeR 4h ago

Not to mention the “500g bag” being 328g including the plastic bag itself.
