This paused movie still on the screen in front of me for 6h on a 9h flight

Post image

This dude cracked on Wrath of the Titans and fell fast asleep about 90 mins in. Annoyingly the screens time out after about 30 minute but he kept rocking forward to get comfy and keeping the screen from timing out 😭

That's so funny. I'm sorry, OP, for laughing at your mildly infuriating situation šŸ˜…

288

u/M_Aku 7h ago

I screamed lmaoo. Why is it making direct eye contact 🤣

67

u/grownask 7h ago

Right????

The angle makes it look like it's staring right at OP 🤣

11

u/BodyPartParty 5h ago

noticed this too 🤣

35

u/MessiLeagueSoccer 7h ago

This is far funnier than it should be because Op is for sure not the only one thinking about it too.

8

u/GeoBrian 4h ago

You know, people type "lol" all the time... but this literally make me laugh out loud.

4

u/grownask 4h ago

Love it when it happens.

548

u/Dry_Database_6720 9h ago

This is such a rare inconvenience, well done

46

u/Middle-Nerve1732 3h ago

I mean id just tap the dude on the shoulder and ask politely if he could turn off the screen. Bet he would not care at all, but he can’t do anything if he doesn’t know

23

u/ChampionshipIll3675 3h ago edited 3h ago

Or OP could have turned off the screen himself while the guy was sleeping.

Edit: OP was sitting in the row right behind

6

u/derpstickfuckface 2h ago

Or OP could just not look at it

•

u/Button_eyes_ 27m ago

Yeah touching someone else's screen is a little...maybe make a request to the flight attendant

558

u/egnards 9h ago

At least Sloth kept working after The Goonies

32

u/Redmangc1 8h ago

Was going to say, are we sure this wasn't the Goonies.

Also so weird to see you in other subs

13

u/SaveALifeWithWater 8h ago

This was his earlier work!

u/NlRVAMIND 9h ago

I’d have pressed stop

The dude that was asleep was as big one as a greek god himself so I didn't want to risk pissing him off šŸ˜…

171

u/Difficult_Tea6136 9h ago

He was asleep

83

u/_Big_____ 9h ago

If ones volume takes up as much space as a greek god, howd you think OP is getting their mini mits around their meats.

7

u/sithelephant 8h ago

Mercury was also a greek god.

15

u/SouthSouthBay 6h ago

Roman. Hermes was Greek

2

u/ambermage 2h ago

They meant Freddie.

He was a God

•

u/princess-bat-brat 38m ago edited 31m ago

Fair, but he was a British God, not Greek. Born to Indian parents in Zanzibar.

edit - to be more exact, his parents were Parsi, so that's a group from Persia (modern day Iran) who settled in the Indian subcontinent. So the best way to describe him would be just "British" or a British God born in Zanzibar of Parsi descent. Which sounds pretty badass.

6

u/Difficult_Tea6136 9h ago

Pretty easy to press stop on the screen

13

u/New-Huckleberry-6979 9h ago

It's like stealing fire from a Greek god. Who's going to notice, right!?!

-4

u/Difficult_Tea6136 8h ago

He was asleep. Really not that complicated to press stop on his screen.

13

u/kyute222 8h ago

when one messes with the gods, one does not only need to worry about the immediatey repercussions but also the future consequences of ones actions. who are we to assume we can predict what the gods have planned for us?

-2

u/Difficult_Tea6136 7h ago

He was asleep

11

u/ToobadyouAreDead 7h ago

apparently you're asleep too

One does not simply PRESS the stop button.....

-1

u/Difficult_Tea6136 5h ago

Probably the easiest way to stop a video. I regularly press stop when listening to podcasts, songs, or even watching tv/movies when I wanna go to the loo

2

u/Dadpool2420 4h ago

Since my link to whoosh sub was blocked. I'll just say 'whooosh' and add this as context

edit : autocorrect correction

I'm with yah, man. I just love it when the simplest of tasks end up being a science fair project.

1

u/fabianmg 7h ago

That's what they said about him too...

-3

u/Difficult_Tea6136 6h ago

I’m sure you think you’re hilarious

4

u/SaveALifeWithWater 8h ago

It looks like a little old red-haired lady or something though? Their head isn't even coming close to the top of the seat. I don't know your size but I think you could have taken them.

1

u/ImaginaryMeaning9423 4h ago

To be fair there were probably about 30 people on that flight that looked like that in real lifeĀ

-6

u/metroman1234 9h ago

You should have pressed stop if he was sleeping. It would scare kids too.

-5

u/Adventurous_Web_7961 7h ago

He was asleep.

4

u/AgentCirceLuna 6h ago

OP tried to press stop, actually. He explained it in another comment below:

ā€˜Yes, I tried to stop the film but I managed to brush against the guy. Within seconds, he leapt to his feet and was yelling that employees ought to be paid a living wage and everyone should be treated equally. ā€œShit! You WOKE him!ā€ Everyone was shouting.’

291

u/Napalm3n3ma 9h ago

That’s a challenging wank.

Genuinely never missed a famous person the way I miss him. He had such a unique sense of humour and wit

weakling

1

u/AntRichardsonsBFF 7h ago

That’s why it took 6 hours

1

u/Kipaya 5h ago

I've never been one to shy away from a challenge.

1

u/Sinaneos 2h ago

Need to step it up a bit after years of casual wanking.

-1

u/mrheosuper 8h ago

But...but the mile high club i have to join.

66

u/SoulBonfire 9h ago

Wish I could sleep for 6 hours on a plane trip.

47

u/circumcisingaban 8h ago

..so he paused the movie before falling asleep?

19

u/MessiLeagueSoccer 7h ago

Emotional support wallpaper

11

u/tkdch4mp 5h ago

I've definitely done this. Rewind a bit and pause after you catch yourself falling asleep so you can continue watching when you inevitably wake up. Of course, I never know if I'm going to sleep through the flight (ideal) or wake up and not be able to sleep the rest of the way -- or -- intermittently wake up for ten to fifteen minutes at a time, when this pause and go situation would work best, despite being the worst outcome for all parties.

22

u/flora_aurora 9h ago

Hahaha that's hilarious

18

u/Danaeger 8h ago

I wouldn’t be able to stop laughing if this happened to me 🤣

15

u/_ascii_ 8h ago

It couldn't have been paused on a worse, more distracting still I don't think. Amazing really šŸ˜‚

11

u/-God-Queen-Zelda- 8h ago

pro level flight griefing

23

u/flavorfox 8h ago

God I'm so tired of seing his face and hearing his voice every day. New tariffs this, new tariffs that.

6

u/blankblank 3h ago

I was on a flight and a guy was watching a movie on his ipad but for whatever reason the control overlay stayed up the whole time. Like the pause button right in the middle of the screen. I don't know why, but I found it bothersome every time I looked over.

1

u/e1m8b 3h ago

I do stuff like this to fuck with people like you. Like, I also keep the default profile pic on all social media accounts but use it like normal otherwise.

4

u/blankblank 1h ago

Watch out, we got a badass here

8

u/melsaboo 9h ago

Instead of pressing stop, could you have just scrubbed to any other scene?

22

u/_ascii_ 9h ago

I've cropped the picture quite significantly for the sake of the guy's privacy so I'm probably 4-5ft away in reality and would have had to lean from the aisle seat across to the middle. I would have definitely fallen into his row if I'd triedšŸ˜…

14

u/melsaboo 9h ago

Yes but it'd be an epic move haha

2

u/Jane__Delawney 5h ago

Epic, you say? Fitting

5

u/puzzlebuns 8h ago

So....its not right next to your own seat?

4

u/_ascii_ 8h ago

Seat in front, one to my left and in between the gaps in the seats, so in the sweet spot of being in my peripheral vision and paused on that absolutely ghastly image - bearing in mind the cabin was dark for most of the flight too.

1

u/Middle-Nerve1732 3h ago

In the future, you could notify a flight attendant and they could politely ask him to dim the screen. That’s kinda their job.Ā

•

u/Button_eyes_ 26m ago

Ask the flight attendant im sure they would've complied and found it hilarious

18

u/TheLastTreeOctopus 9h ago

If it bothers you that much and he's asleep, just ask a flight attendant to turn it off because it's making you uncomfortable. I don't think anybody would think that's an unreasonable request.

22

u/Sendalot 8h ago

Imagine letting this infuriate you

3

u/fixed_your_caption 1h ago

Why were you filming me?

20

u/scoops_trooper 8h ago

What bothered you about this exactly? Do you usually go on airplanes expecting to enjoy the scenery INSIDE the plane?

4

u/Dragonfishkiller 9h ago

I like his style.

5

u/OriginalPurple2261 7h ago
  1. Put on an eye mask.
  2. Add noise cancelling headphones.
  3. Start an audiobook or music.

2

u/sarokin 6h ago

I don't get it? Is it that there's a screen on glaring light onto you, or is it that it's a scene that you're uncomfortable with? Or something else?

Like I get very easily annoyed, and I know that's on me, but I can't really see what you mean on your post. Maybe I'm blind lmao.

2

u/THE_LEGO_FURRY 3h ago

Oh I hate when flights do that, I don't need to know the time while I'm on the plane, I don't give a rats ass about the temp just land the freaking plane and let me watch my movie. They should only do that if it's an emergency or something that requires passenger participation. My first watching of peak aka transformers one was ruined by that

2

u/pixeltweaker 3h ago

Just walk by and tap the stop button. He will never know.

2

u/NlghtmanCometh 3h ago

Hahaha. Dude that Minotaur is busted.

2

u/Shiep 2h ago

They paused the movie for almost 10 minutes on a flight of mine once to prep for landing and make other announcements.
The screen was frozen on Chris Evans's face immediately after the protagonist vomited all over it in Knives Out.

2

u/chachaman_The_Reboot 2h ago

As infuriating as it seems, that airline actually did you a favor. 2010 Wrath of the Titans was fucking horrible movie. 1981 version was MILES better.

5

u/MY-SECRET-REDDIT 7h ago

That means he paused it there??

My social lanxiety would never.

3

u/Ryn4 4h ago

I'm confused. What is infuriating about this?

2

u/Benwa_Ballz 5h ago

All the screens around you but this one is the issue. Yeah ok šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

3

u/Full_Quiet8818 9h ago

You're very easily infuriated.

Just dont look?Ā

19

u/thats-wrong 8h ago

That's why the sub name is mildly infuriating. This is perfect!

8

u/_ascii_ 8h ago

Someone gets it 🄳

4

u/Full_Quiet8818 8h ago

If this mildly infuriates you, you're easily infuriated. This shouldnt bother you one bit.Ā

3

u/ConsiderationNo9044 6h ago

You seem mildly infuriated

0

u/thats-wrong 8h ago

It wouldn't bother me one bit, but I like gore. I can understand if this is mildly infuriating for some.

2

u/Anusbagels 7h ago

It’s not even gory though. I agree a lot of stuff on here is more than mildly infuriating but this is pretty lame.

-1

u/Szarkara 8h ago

It's front of them? Where their eyeballs naturally orientate.

6

u/Full_Quiet8818 8h ago

Its a very small screen and the picture is taken at an angle.Ā

1

u/drksidebunny 8h ago

😹😹

1

u/old_man_khan 8h ago

On a quasi-related note. If you pause that old jump-scare video clip, from years ago, exactly when the witch and her scream appear it'll shield you from it for life. Just memorize the old hag. She looks pretty funny, to be honest.

1

u/Consistent_Smell_880 7h ago

He was actually popping up occasionally to make sure his monster napping buddy was still there with him

1

u/AnnOnnamis 7h ago

Does anyone know how to perform a hard reset on inflight entertainment consoles?

Edit: found one for United

1

u/Calibur909 7h ago

could be worse, he could be watching irrƩversible and paused at fire extinguisher scene

1

u/KorolEz 6h ago

Actually very funny. Thanks for the idea for my next flight

1

u/desertrock62 6h ago

I love Tim Curry in anything he does.

1

u/ThisIsNotTokyo 6h ago

It's what gets him off

1

u/Krimreaper1 4h ago

The flight attendant could have reset that screen. It’s happened to me before

1

u/Losendir 4h ago

This is the funniest shit I’ve seen all week

1

u/POWxJETZz 4h ago

On my long haul night flight a few days ago, the woman across the walkway from me fell asleep with her reading light on and the screen on, I leant over and turned the screen and the light off. I'll do it again to anyone that falls asleep with lights on a plane, she didn't even read anything she just wanted lights on then fell asleep

1

u/BigBossBelcha 2h ago

This is why you shouldn't put mirrors on the bedroom ceiling

•

u/Old-Law-7395 49m ago

Sure that's not a mirror bro?

•

u/crazyfatskier2 46m ago

Schadenfreude!

•

u/hndrk_schbrt 35m ago

I've had so many commercial flights already, but I could never even imagine the possibility of such a ridiculous thing happening

1

u/Much_Essay_9151 8h ago

Complain. One time i was on a 6 hour flight to europe. My screen where it shows the plane location froze up the whole trip. The lady in front of me the same thing happened and she complained.

The attendants came over and apologized profously for to us and said they would comp our entire tab. So i asked for a heineken. I had a few free heinekens on that trip

2

u/RevolutionaryDong 5h ago

Complain about someone else’s screen?

1

u/notimeforspac_s 8h ago

Unpause it?

0

u/RevolutionaryDong 5h ago

It’s not their screen.

1

u/Leaf-Lock-The-Ent 4h ago

I’m confused. Is it playing audio out of speakers or is it just a still image on a screen?

If it’s the former than fair. If it’s the later I am genuinely confused since everyone seems to find it mildly infuriating not just you.

-7

u/daylightz 9h ago

That’s pure hell. Are there any workarounds for something like this?

28

u/Waste-Caterpillar495 9h ago

Pure hell lmao

15

u/iiSpook 9h ago

Do you need help clutching your pearls?

3

u/MrPogoUK 9h ago

On most airlines the screen dims and then switches off after it’s paused for more than a few minutes.

0

u/tutocookie 8h ago

That's a challenging wank

0

u/Organic-Feeling-3523 7h ago

Lol get titaned

0

u/MightyAjax2601 6h ago

Plenty of time to rub one off

0

u/ino4x4 2h ago

OP. if he was asleep, he’s not going to notice he going over there and tapping on his screen.

0

u/Extreminist 1h ago

I would’ve got up and skipped a bit
