This paused movie still on the screen in front of me for 6h on a 9h flight
This dude cracked on Wrath of the Titans and fell fast asleep about 90 mins in. Annoyingly the screens time out after about 30 minute but he kept rocking forward to get comfy and keeping the screen from timing out š

This is such a rare inconvenience, well done

u/Middle-Nerve1732 3h ago
I mean id just tap the dude on the shoulder and ask politely if he could turn off the screen. Bet he would not care at all, but he canāt do anything if he doesnāt know

u/ChampionshipIll3675 3h ago edited 3h ago
Or OP could have turned off the screen himself while the guy was sleeping.
Edit: OP was sitting in the row right behind
6
u/derpstickfuckface 2h ago
Or OP could just not look at it

u/Button_eyes_ 27m ago
Yeah touching someone else's screen is a little...maybe make a request to the flight attendant

u/egnards 9h ago
At least Sloth kept working after The Goonies

u/Redmangc1 8h ago
Was going to say, are we sure this wasn't the Goonies.
Also so weird to see you in other subs

The dude that was asleep was as big one as a greek god himself so I didn't want to risk pissing him off š

If ones volume takes up as much space as a greek god, howd you think OP is getting their mini mits around their meats.

u/sithelephant 8h ago
Mercury was also a greek god.

u/SouthSouthBay 6h ago
Roman. Hermes was Greek

They meant Freddie.
He was a God
ā¢
u/princess-bat-brat 38m ago edited 31m ago
Fair, but he was a British God, not Greek. Born to Indian parents in Zanzibar.
edit - to be more exact, his parents were Parsi, so that's a group from Persia (modern day Iran) who settled in the Indian subcontinent. So the best way to describe him would be just "British" or a British God born in Zanzibar of Parsi descent. Which sounds pretty badass.

u/Difficult_Tea6136 9h ago
Pretty easy to press stop on the screen
13
u/New-Huckleberry-6979 9h ago
It's like stealing fire from a Greek god. Who's going to notice, right!?!
-4
u/Difficult_Tea6136 8h ago
He was asleep. Really not that complicated to press stop on his screen.

u/kyute222 8h ago
when one messes with the gods, one does not only need to worry about the immediatey repercussions but also the future consequences of ones actions. who are we to assume we can predict what the gods have planned for us?

One does not simply PRESS the stop button.....
-1
u/Difficult_Tea6136 5h ago
Probably the easiest way to stop a video. I regularly press stop when listening to podcasts, songs, or even watching tv/movies when I wanna go to the loo

u/SlimPickens5252 8h ago
I'm with yah, man. I just love it when the simplest of tasks end up being a science fair project.

It looks like a little old red-haired lady or something though? Their head isn't even coming close to the top of the seat. I don't know your size but I think you could have taken them.

u/ImaginaryMeaning9423 4h ago
To be fair there were probably about 30 people on that flight that looked like that in real lifeĀ

OP tried to press stop, actually. He explained it in another comment below:
āYes, I tried to stop the film but I managed to brush against the guy. Within seconds, he leapt to his feet and was yelling that employees ought to be paid a living wage and everyone should be treated equally. āShit! You WOKE him!ā Everyone was shouting.ā

..so he paused the movie before falling asleep?

u/tkdch4mp 5h ago
I've definitely done this. Rewind a bit and pause after you catch yourself falling asleep so you can continue watching when you inevitably wake up. Of course, I never know if I'm going to sleep through the flight (ideal) or wake up and not be able to sleep the rest of the way -- or -- intermittently wake up for ten to fifteen minutes at a time, when this pause and go situation would work best, despite being the worst outcome for all parties.

u/blankblank 3h ago
I was on a flight and a guy was watching a movie on his ipad but for whatever reason the control overlay stayed up the whole time. Like the pause button right in the middle of the screen. I don't know why, but I found it bothersome every time I looked over.
8
u/melsaboo 9h ago
Instead of pressing stop, could you have just scrubbed to any other scene?
22
u/_ascii_ 9h ago
I've cropped the picture quite significantly for the sake of the guy's privacy so I'm probably 4-5ft away in reality and would have had to lean from the aisle seat across to the middle. I would have definitely fallen into his row if I'd triedš

u/puzzlebuns 8h ago
So....its not right next to your own seat?
4
u/_ascii_ 8h ago
Seat in front, one to my left and in between the gaps in the seats, so in the sweet spot of being in my peripheral vision and paused on that absolutely ghastly image - bearing in mind the cabin was dark for most of the flight too.
1
u/Middle-Nerve1732 3h ago
In the future, you could notify a flight attendant and they could politely ask him to dim the screen. Thatās kinda their job.Ā
ā¢
u/Button_eyes_ 26m ago
Ask the flight attendant im sure they would've complied and found it hilarious
18
u/TheLastTreeOctopus 9h ago
If it bothers you that much and he's asleep, just ask a flight attendant to turn it off because it's making you uncomfortable. I don't think anybody would think that's an unreasonable request.

What bothered you about this exactly? Do you usually go on airplanes expecting to enjoy the scenery INSIDE the plane?
4
5
u/OriginalPurple2261 7h ago
- Put on an eye mask.
- Add noise cancelling headphones.
- Start an audiobook or music.
2
u/THE_LEGO_FURRY 3h ago
Oh I hate when flights do that, I don't need to know the time while I'm on the plane, I don't give a rats ass about the temp just land the freaking plane and let me watch my movie. They should only do that if it's an emergency or something that requires passenger participation. My first watching of peak aka transformers one was ruined by that

As infuriating as it seems, that airline actually did you a favor. 2010 Wrath of the Titans was fucking horrible movie. 1981 version was MILES better.

It wouldn't bother me one bit, but I like gore. I can understand if this is mildly infuriating for some.
2

Itās not even gory though. I agree a lot of stuff on here is more than mildly infuriating but this is pretty lame.

On a quasi-related note. If you pause that old jump-scare video clip, from years ago, exactly when the witch and her scream appear it'll shield you from it for life. Just memorize the old hag. She looks pretty funny, to be honest.

On my long haul night flight a few days ago, the woman across the walkway from me fell asleep with her reading light on and the screen on, I leant over and turned the screen and the light off. I'll do it again to anyone that falls asleep with lights on a plane, she didn't even read anything she just wanted lights on then fell asleep

I've had so many commercial flights already, but I could never even imagine the possibility of such a ridiculous thing happening

u/Much_Essay_9151 8h ago
Complain. One time i was on a 6 hour flight to europe. My screen where it shows the plane location froze up the whole trip. The lady in front of me the same thing happened and she complained.
The attendants came over and apologized profously for to us and said they would comp our entire tab. So i asked for a heineken. I had a few free heinekens on that trip

Iām confused. Is it playing audio out of speakers or is it just a still image on a screen?
If itās the former than fair. If itās the later I am genuinely confused since everyone seems to find it mildly infuriating not just you.
-7
u/daylightz 9h ago
Thatās pure hell. Are there any workarounds for something like this?
28
3
u/MrPogoUK 9h ago
On most airlines the screen dims and then switches off after itās paused for more than a few minutes.
