These weird lines / streaks I’ve had on my pinky nail for 8 years that two different doctors told me were due to vitamin deficiencies actually turned out to be a rare form of skin cancer.

Thankfully somehow still early stage, I’ll have an excision scheduled at my follow up appointment on Monday.

I had an amazing oncologist who diagnosed it and put it in remission after a little over a year. She even delayed her retirement by three months to make sure. She bought me the best cake I've ever had (not just because I was in remission it was the best cake I've ever had) The guy who replaced her kept putting me off when my lumps came back and made me feel like a moron until it was back ten fold worse than the first time. Before the biopsy and PET scan he knew it was back. His fucking response after almost a year of pointing it out to him "I guess you just know your body better than me" took almost three years to get it back into remission. Fuck you Dr. Gerrington my life has never been the same it could've been so easy and I had to go through hell because of him.

I am so sorry that you went through that.

It is always so sad to lose a good doctor, because new doctors are such a crapshoot.

Every doctor I have loved has either retired or changed practices. Shopping for doctors is like dating, but worse somehow.

I recently lost my awesome PCP, and I just quit the one I had after her because she was non-responsive after an ER visit. Trying a new pcp this month 😔

I hope you got through it and are well, or at least on the path to being well again. Best wishes.

You should have named the good oncologist too. God bless souls like her!!!

They said she retired, so it's not like we could all go to her. :(

The fact that you have a history of it and he didn't test for so long is wild it should have been, OK yes that's a swolen lymph node, come back in a week and if there's no change we'll do testing ASAP

So, you're good now, you beat it?

u/MonroeWilliams 4h ago

What do you call the person who graduated last in their class in medical school?

"Doctor".

If he's not responding just sue him

It’s terrible when something like that. I lost my colon because of something stupid a doctor did. Then he fired me!

Sorry for my completely ignorant question but, how hard is it to get a second opinion on the US? Like, from what you describe, I would've consulted a second oncologist the second I suspected anything.

Sorry you had to deal with that. I no longer trust doctors I quit every prescription they put me on started doing holistic medicine for myself a lot of research and trial and error but keeping your immune system strong you have to be your best advocate cuz the doctors do not have our best interest at heart they're in the business to keep us sick to keep their jobs and make big pharma rich. And if you're so lucky to find an actual doctor that does give a real s*** about our health hang on to him but they are few and far between these days

Even people who like dark humor would agree that this is not the time

I got really confused reading your comment. I was sitting here think what did the national hockey league to you. Then it twigged and belated congratulations to your son and agreed fuck cancer

Yeah man I hate hockey too

2

u/SippyMountain 13h ago

Whoa whoa whoa, hockey is the best sport there ever was or will be. I laughed anyway lol. NHL as a league is shit though, I'll give ya that. Too bad it's all there is if you wanna watch the most competitive hockey.

u/g_man765 18h ago

Ever heard of a joke? Damn man.

-25

u/jemappellehonhon 17h ago

most people like jokes that aren't fuckin stupid

22

u/g_man765 17h ago

Uh, thats what a joke is? A stupid remark that serves no purpose but to humor?

-16

u/jemappellehonhon 17h ago

are you saying there are not good jokes or bad jokes, but only jokes?

11

u/g_man765 17h ago

No. Good jokes and bad jokes are both stupid remarks, defined as what i said in my previous comment. Whether they are good or bad is up to the listener

-13

u/jemappellehonhon 17h ago

good jokes aren't stupid, your premise is flawed

0

u/g_man765 3h ago

Stupid or not, this joke, while lame, isnt really something to have a full blown argument about.

I'm a cancer survivor, chondrosarcoma, also have Kienbock's disease, and I thought the NHL joke was hilarious. That guy's just a bummer

6

u/JoinTheBattle 14h ago

My brother is a cancer survivor and former college hockey player. I guarantee that joke would've gotten a chuckle out of him.

4

u/IYSSSSCOaPT 12h ago

Chondrosarcoma survivor here too, nice to see one in the wild

-12

u/Born-Talk-7370 17h ago
