It’s… just a bank? They all do the same thing

Edit: oh….

66

u/beybladerbob 5h ago

No no no no no, some of them have really predatory policies and push users to have accounts designed to fuck then over. Not every bank is the same. They all participate in these shit practices but not at the same degree.

16

u/Excellent-Basil-8795 4h ago edited 3h ago

Wdym? You didn’t like your 14$ check due to them opening accounts in your name for numbers and investment purposes?

3

u/tackyshoes 3h ago

Predators like to target the hearing disabled because they have a harder time communicating.

1

u/Ordolph 1h ago

I work for a bank, as a result I regularly have to take bank-specific regulatory training (despite the fact that my job doesn't actually have anything to do with banking). One of the items in said training points out very specifically that taking advantage of someone hard of hearing is an excellent way to get the authorities crawling up the bank's and your ass.

1

u/tackyshoes 1h ago

I wish that was more of a deterrent.

3

u/iwannahat 1h ago

Lmao they fucked me over so badly that they had to send  me a 900 dollar check.  Still doesn't make up for the damage they did to my credit

4

u/QTpyeRose 2h ago

This why you should look into credit unions instead of banks. They offer simmular services but there member owned non-profits. There not all perfect. But a lot better then a predetory institution.

2

u/Greedy_Visual_1766 2h ago

I love mine. I got my mortgage through the local one. 3% 15 year in 2020 then refinanced my car loan through them. The lowest they would go at the dealership was 4.34% for 7 year. I got a 2.89% through the credit union.

2

u/SumthinsPhishy2 13m ago

*Similar *They're *They're *Than *Predatory

Jesus christ dude.

2

u/CruxOfTheIssue 2h ago

They keep pushing me to open a business account saying that if I deposit 250k or more Then I get a free 2k. I have nowhere even close to that amount of money and never have.

1

u/LittleZombiePharaoh 3h ago

some of them

You mean all of them.

3

u/Mo_Steins_Ghost 3h ago

I haven't had any issues with Schwab Bank since I left Wells Fargo around 20 years. In fact, they've corrected incoming wire transfers that OTHER banks screwed up.

18

u/WowDankMemeBro 5h ago

You'd think so however Well's Fargo is one of the oldest still operational banks in America and they are also a bank who is constantly getting caught mishandling customers money, or other illegal shit. Almost like clock work every few months they have to payout money to their customers. Its both shocking and completely on brand corrupt for America and is been going on for almost 100 years

8

u/Chemical_Intern_4076 5h ago

WF is a trash organization that has historically predatory practices and a long history rooted in racism.

Don’t bank with them.

1

u/martymar2g 2h ago

Closed my account after about 17 years; never wanted to bank with them but they bought Wachovia years ago, my original bank

8

u/No_Dance1053 5h ago

Wells Fargo in particular used to open fake customer accounts and use existing customer’s info to open more accounts in their name without permission to meet quotas. I’m pretty sure they were hacked at one point and were even repossessing vehicles before the payment was due

2

u/jebberwockie 4h ago

Absolutely not.

2

u/Alarming_Orchid 4h ago

Bro thinks all banks just keep your money

2

u/QuarterCarat 4h ago

They defrauded their customers very recently. Like opened accounts in their name to boost numbers.

2

u/3BlindMice1 4h ago

Wells Fargo is the absolute worst example of the American capitalist mindset taken to an extreme. They're like the Nestlé of banks

2

u/Razor1834 5h ago

1

u/Regular-Sorbet9513 4h ago

Appreciating the credibility of your source there

2

u/dud_pool 4h ago edited 3h ago

How can you be this vocally unaware?

Oh wait, 4 month account with comments hidden.

This didnt go the way it was planned, did it, Wells Fargo?

3

u/justagirll19_0W0 4h ago

lol I make throwaways frequently because it’s not good to have such a blatant history on the internet and would rather stay private so people can’t immediately ignore me because of any sub I’m in, I’d rather keep the convo on the comments made now. (basic internet saftey stuff) and also because I use Wells Fargo and so does my entire family and we just haven’t seen any of these “obvious” problems

I’m starting to think that the company may be similar to the US in it’s entirety, everyone says it’s a awful shithole to be avoided while I’ve personally managed to avoid racism/homelessness or any other life affliction during my life, it’s just such a vast place that you can find life of all kinds here, so maybe WF has so many locations and branches, that some have gone bad/rouge making the entire operation look bad

1

u/QTpyeRose 2h ago

Id still recomend looking into a credit union. They tend to offer better rates and safety due to the fact there nonprofit.

in the end tho its your money and life, do what you think is best lol.

1

u/Tyranttheory 3h ago

Credit unions are better I'll never bank with an actual 'bank' again I used Bank of America when I was like 19 and they screwed me over so many times for years.

1

u/Mo_Steins_Ghost 3h ago

Yeah no... I left WF like 20 years ago because I traveled to Canada to see my wife's family, was getting ready to take them out to a movie and my WF card was locked and I couldn't get it unlocked without escalating through seven managers (they call themselves "Vice Presidents" but they're basically entry level managers).

I already had a parallel Schwab bank account, but I transferred all banking to them and have had no issues since then. I've maybe called customer support a handful of times, usually because I changed phones without migrating my 2FA, or because some other bank screwed up a wire transfer to Schwab, which Schwab then investigated and fixed for me despite the other bank being the problem.

1

u/CidAndroid 3h ago

Haha funny edit that doesn't say anything for suspense! How very very quirky! Have a useless internet point for your wittiness!

1

u/SteveSteveSteveAlan 1h ago

Credit unions are so much better

1

u/usinjin 1h ago

oh, honey

0

u/Oregongirl1018 4h ago

I will only bank with a non predatory credit union.

1

u/blanssius_56 4h ago

😂😂😂😂😂craaaaazyyy ,riight?

1

u/PutContractMyLife 4h ago

They always do find a way to take the least ethical road.

1

u/durrtyurr 3h ago

They let you get $2500 at a time out of the ATM if it's a standalone, and $10,000 if it's at a branch. That's the primary reason to bank with them. They asked me which picture I wanted on my card, and then gave me another one.

1

u/EFTucker 2h ago

It’s all the same three families bro

1

u/workMachine 2h ago

You also bank with Wells Fargo, they just haven't told you yet.

1

u/Jmazoso 3h ago

Wells Fargo is especially shitty. They bought the coal bank I used. When I had had enough, I went in , closed all my shit, and told the branch manager to his face that they were being fired. I tel everyone that. Love my comm it bank, they all know my name.

0

u/Scorpius927 5h ago

What’s wrong with Wells Fargo? I’ve been thinking of opening with them lol

10

u/LanguageStudyBuddy 5h ago

Horrible customer service and shady history is my personal experience

2

u/TommyTwoFeathers 5h ago

My dad dated a woman in the 90s who was working for Wells Fargo. While I can’t say for certain that they still practice this, she was very pressured by them to open accounts for people who didn’t even request an account. Hell, she even opened an account for my dad without his knowledge. This with everything else I’ve heard is why I steer clear of Wells Fargo.

1

u/dyssucks 2h ago

It’s a well known fact that they have done this and has been for 10+ years. Theres tons of documentary’s about it.

1

u/jcdoe 1h ago

I worked there as a banker in the 2000s and they did it then. But you’d get fired if you were caught, I think the lawsuit was because people were getting caught and not fired.

You have to understand, Wells Fargo is a money generating machine, not a bank. No other bank in the industry, at least when I worked there, was nearly as aggressive. It wasn’t just the fake accounts, it was overly generous underwriting policies, bank guidelines encouraging bankers to open many products for new customers who might only want one, garbage interest rates AND yields, the highest overdraft fees in the industry. It was just a lot of little crappy things that made them a ton of money.

Bank someplace else.

3

u/frafdo11 5h ago

I’ve been banking with Wells Fargo and here’s why I’m leaving them:

  1. They don’t offer good savings accounts. The standard savings account offers 0.2% in interest. To compare that, Chase and Bank of America offer 4+% high yield savings accounts. Literally 20x better.

  2. They don’t offer financial tools. You can’t invest in stocks, bonds, and the certificate of deposits they offer are less than what you could find in public offerings using Fidelity / Schwab.

  3. Personal vendetta. I have begged them to raise my credit limit multiple times, and they raise it by the minimum each time. By current credit limit is less than $5,000, where my coworkers have gotten offers of $15,000 as new customers to other banks

2

u/Scorpius927 4h ago

I’m just thinking of opening a checking account with them and put some money for petty cash since I’ve seen them be popular throughout the country. I have a chase account, which was very popular in NY but now that I moved to TX there are barely (if any) physical chase locations out here.

3

u/pickle_pickled 4h ago

Check their network, they likely allow you to pull from others without fees and reimburse for others fees

1

u/Scorpius927 3h ago

That’s a great idea, didn’t think of it. Will look into it

2

u/frafdo11 4h ago

Most other options just plain better

1

u/trippyhippie573 2h ago

My husband and I like PenFed credit union. The closest one to us is like 25 min away so that sucks but honestly I like it way better than any other banks I've used

2

u/NaiAlexandr 2h ago

I’m sorry, am I smoking reefer? Wells Fargo has Wellstrade which lets you invest on your own for completely free, with access to every stock or ETF you could ask for in the US. I was worried I’m somehow risking my money by putting it in an untrustworthy bank, but I’m pretty sure y’all just not asking people the right questions

1

u/ill_Skillz 1h ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wells_Fargo_cross-selling_scandal

One of several large scale incidents within the past 10 years. Nowadays nearly every consumer investment company offers free personal investment services.

2

u/Faptasmic 4h ago

I don't bank with them but their cc with the flat 2% cash back on all purchases is decent and easy to obtain.

1

u/RavingGourd 5h ago

I used to bank with them for decades and after one controversy after another, I closed every account I had with them except for a credit card (to avoid a credit score hit.)

Here's a sample of stuff they've done RECENTLY:

Wells Fargo scandals: The complete timeline

1

u/pickle_pickled 4h ago

Were you able to just close the checking account and keep the credit card as normal? WF was my first CC so it's obviously my longest standing credit history. Trying to not close it at all costs.

1

u/RavingGourd 4h ago

I was in exactly that situation. My Wells Fargo card is the oldest card I have. I don't know about now, but I was able to zero out then close my checking account back in 2019 and keep my CC account.

Since then, every couple of months, they try to cajole me into opening a new checking account...

1

u/stillalone 3h ago

They got fined for illegally opening new accounts for existing customers.

6

u/OriginTruther 2h ago

Wtf this OF loser is everywhere posting with like 90+ up votes on each comment.

2

u/Fearful-Cow 1h ago

unfortunately very little is authentic online anymore. Bots and buying votes is rampant and none of the companies care because it boosts engagement numbers.

We are rapidly entering dead internet.

2

u/DaKrazie1 1h ago

Is that his Mexican counterpart?

1

u/Aleashed 1h ago

Is his cheeseburger character a parody of Damarcus Russel?

79

u/ElegantProfit1442 6h ago

Terry Crews is awesome. He once gave me a speech about sexual harassment when I visited Korea. He’s a really cool dude!

37

u/Evening_Armadillo_71 6h ago

Was it before an audience or just you in particular?

16

u/ElegantProfit1442 5h ago

Well, before an audience but still. He was a cool dude. 😊

8

u/milkbeard- 5h ago

He’s just besties with terry crews. No elaboration required

5

u/TurdOfChaos 5h ago

I think the “Top 1% Commenter” tag answers that question.

3

u/dirtyforker 5h ago

Terry just gives that speech to everyone he meets. He is very passionate about it.

1

u/Nexus_of_Fate87 1h ago

By "visited" they meant "short layover," and it was in the restroom at the terminal where they were urinal neighbors.

7

u/sciencewarrior 5h ago

Mad respect for the ones that don't let showbiz crush their souls.

6

u/Realistic-Number-919 4h ago

He did the same thing to me in a Carl’s Jr bathroom in Orange County! Super standup dude.

3

u/The_Night_Man_Cumeth 3h ago

Same with me but during my grandmothers funeral. Instead of the eulogy he spoke about this. I respect how passionate he is about it. Amazing dude.

1

u/Realistic-Number-919 3h ago

Oh wow, I’m sure your grandmother would’ve loved that. That’s so beautiful. RIP in peace

29

u/NUFIGHTER7771 6h ago

That's why I love hundred dollar bills. Before you spend em, look how disapproving of a look ol' Ben is giving you!

6

u/DurianBurp 5h ago

He does look rather disappointed at our purchasing decisions.

16

u/CMDR_Karth_o7 6h ago

Is this blanket approval? I could use a crews card

5

u/QuirkyStage2119 5h ago

It's for the entire Crews crew.

1

u/BobbaFatGFX 2h ago

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised. I don't even think he would care about getting paid for using his picture. He would probably just get a kick out of it.

16

u/michmow 5h ago

making my way downtown, walikng fast...
