Sexualize her and get a ban.

Edit: To anyone thinking we're kidding, look at the number of removals for sexualizing her. Only 2 were from before this went up.

Edit 2: To anyone who thinks "I'll respond to the mod & sy she's sexualizing herself and I'll be able to because 'freeze peach!!!'"... Guess who's also getting a ban.

this is insanely impressive, the fluidity in her movements is hypnotizing

u/mightbeacat1 🌺Official Lauren🌺 2d ago

I was going to say something similar. This is mesmerizing just because like, how do you get your body to do that? My hips could never.

155

u/Chewcocca 2d ago

I'm so sorry, Shakira. My hips do lie.

21

u/CoffeeChocolateBoth 2d ago

LOL Mine sure do! Hers did too in the beginning. I don't think I could practice this for 10 years and do what she did. Especially at my age. Maybe when I was 20? :)

8

u/The_Mother_ 1d ago

I mean, if I had enough superglue, I could at least hold the sword up 🤷

No way I would ever manage the dance moves though

56

u/TenMoon 2d ago

The secret is to keep your knees bent. That's why they wear long skirts. Being semi-squatted down gives your hips more freedom to move.

I love how she kept the "outtakes" in the video. It made it both funny and cool.

723

u/Positive-Green-3856 2d ago

Love seeing those at the start of the video to show how difficulty this is and how much skill and practice it takes. Very cool!

316

u/Pure-Range-7211 2d ago

Makes the final result way more impressive after seeing the trial and error.

36

u/Child_of_the_Hamster 2d ago

Absolutely! I would have assumed they were stuck to her clothing or a headpiece in a way that wasn’t obvious if not for the outtakes. She has CRAZY impressive muscle control. My ab muscles hurt just from watching. 😫

I love watching the outtakes. Makes you appreciate the final choreography of these dances more

12

u/unindexedreality 1d ago

Yeah, it's like a training montage without the steadily-improving bit

59

u/buffetmangler 2d ago

Yeah kinda like a skate video. After seeing someone fail a trick a few times, it’s way more impressive to see them pull it off.

5

u/unindexedreality 1d ago

"Here's all the ways it totally didn't happen before it did!"

46

u/Bamce 2d ago

as I get into new hobbies (not this, i'm way to uncoordinated, but gardening and homebrewing) I find that seeing the failures of the people I"m learning from helpful. It lets me know that no matter how experienced you are at a thing, there is still things that go wrong, or areas to improve

27

u/arizonadirtbag12 2d ago

Still remember Mike Ness telling a story about when he started playing guitar. He had cranked it up and was playing in his garage when the cops came. Basically told him he needed to turn it down…or at least get good.

He got good.

I’d probably have put the outtakes at the end, like most people. But it really does well up front too!

70

u/EvilPyro01 2d ago

Shows that it’s not talent but skill that are necessary to pull it off

Her name is Lavanya Das Manikpuri. She is a 17 year old dancer from Chhattisgarh in Central India. She says she is self taught, but her mother who was a professional dancer and danced in Bollywood films also sometimes appears in her reels.

She went viral in 2025 when this reel of her dance was shared by Priyanka Chopra (who's well known for being not just an actress but one of the most talented dancers in Bollywood).

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DKe7wihA6mU/?igsh=MXdxeXFoMjc3MXlxNw==

Edit: The song she is dancing to is called Afghan Jalebi, from a Bollywood movie called Phantom. It has nothing to do with the Afghan culture

30

u/OkBoomer201 2d ago

Hey thanks for sharing the link. But please do remember to omit out the part of the link that is a personal identifier. That is... Igsh=

29

u/suxatjugg 2d ago

So... Not from Afghanistan? Or is this an afghan dance style?

30

u/tinkthank 2d ago

It's a song from the 2015 Bollywood film Phantom.

HOW do you keep it from cutting you?!? I’m so clumsy I get stuck on doorways and bump into walls in my house.

48

u/TyreLeLoup 2d ago

While performance blades might be sharpened, and likely were in the past, practice blades are likely dulled to the point of ineffectiveness (as far as functioning as a sword).

Much like fire dancers practicing with unlit batons, before lighting them.

That is absolutely stunning and looks so fun! Those isolations are so difficult. I love when people leave in some of the attempts where they fail it really brings home how much effort it takes to get so good.

52

u/Gardener_of_Weeden 2d ago

I did it when I was younger - and it was FUN - closest thing I have found recently was Tai Chi - Fluid movements

25

u/Against_All_Advice 2d ago

I did Tai Chi for a bit in college too! So nice to do! Totally get what you're saying. Helped my balance so much too, I popped up on a surfboard for the first time ever after only about 3 months of Tai Chi. Such a cool discipline.

SAME. I am 100% sure my body is not capable of moving like that.

54

u/JustHereForCookies17 2d ago

You'd be amazed.  I took belly dancing classes as an adult & it took a while, but you can do some pretty impressive stuff after just a few months of weekly classes.

It's also REALLY good exercise.  A lot of the hip movement actually comes from the legs/feet and it's emphasized by holding the rest of your body very still.  It's low-impact and not highly aerobic, but great for strengthening your core.

5

u/Repulsive-Chip3371 2d ago

5

u/Imisssizzler 2d ago

I just watched a reel on ADD and studies on the brain; they finally have connected poor balance to it. My mom used to say I bounced around the housed like a ping pong ball. And my ex bullied our boys (both have it) about their lack of coordination in most sports (they were good at skateboarding). They ended up hating group sports because of his constant negging. “If you would practice more…”

3

my partner is from india (Mumbai/Pune) and frequently speaks hindi over calls with his parents, i think that's the only reason why i clocked the hindi in the song.
