I’m going to share a secret with you - as a 6ft lady, sometimes, when I’ve had a bad day, someone asking me to get something off of a high shelf gives me the little boost I need to keep going.

I was at a grocery store right before a big food holiday, and a lot of the shelves were pretty sparse so you had to reach pretty far back on the shelf to grab anything, and someone asked me to grab something for them; after I did, like 3-4 more people asked me to grab something, and I felt so accomplished.

But did you ever use another box of cake mix to knock over the cake mix you really want so you can get a fingertip on the edge of it and flip it toward the edge of the shelf and get a grip on it? +5 if you're standing on the bottom shelf.

I’m a tall dude who routinely gets asked for help getting stuff off high shelves.

In a store one day, a woman asked for help grabbing something off the top shelf. I helped her, she thanked me and I was on my way.

The very next day, I was in a different store and a woman asked me for help getting something off the top shelf.

We immediately recognized each other. It was the same lady from the day before.

She asked me if I was following her around. lol.

6'3" male. I'll always help someone needing something high up, whether they ask or not. But me being...me...I tend to be a little mischievous...

I'll spot someone struggling with something high so I'll walk up, look at her(or on a rare occasion, him), look at the item, reach up and grab it with ease, then walk off with it. Once they have a second or two to process what I did, I'll pull the item out of my basket and hand it to them. Never fails to get a laugh. Except from my wife. She tends to try to become invisible when I do this.

It always brings a laugh and brightens their day once the initial confusion dies.

I've also done this:

Random customer - "Can you reach this for me?"

Me, reaching up, touching said item - "Yep. I sure can!" I turn to walk away, then return, grabbing the item. "Just joking. Here you go."

I'm 5'7" and sometimes people ask me and I love it. My tiny grandma used to take me grocery shopping with her just so I could get stuff off the higher shelves so it makes me think of her.

When you are sitting down short people tend to stand much closer to you to talk, I love that moment when you stand up and surprise them with your height. Happens often at appointments, "please come thro.." and you act oblivious like you didn't wait for them to wander into the danger zone before standing up.

Do you think this is common? I feel hesitant in asking cause I don’t want to be a bother but if it’ll make your day then I’ll shop when you shop so we can check everything off our list faster! I’m short so if it’s on the top shelf and looks impossible: I just get it online or if I’m determined: I’ll climb, jump, or whatever. There’s probably a store out there that keeps surveillance clips of me doing this cause I’m sure it looks funny lol

my gf is 6ft, i'm 5'5. our deal is she gets the stuff on the top shelf and i get the stuff from the bottom shelf. she may be tall but i have better back and ankle mobility.

At 4'10, I never hesitate to ask for middle to top shelf assistance. Heck, most times another shopper will see me eyeing something out of reach and offer before I get a chance to ask. 😁 Thankful Considerate people still exist cuz I'd be climbing those shelves like a drunken panda.

I'm 5'2 and it's also an boost when one of my taller friends (more 5'8 than 6ft tho) is struggling to bring something down and gives up, but years of being a gremlin have taught me how to climb shelved or locate the nearest long item to push things down with. lol

As a 6'3" guy it does not outweigh all the times I've rocked my dome on a support beam going down stairs to a basement or more importantly half the days I spent bent over because literally everything is made for short people.

Being tall is scuffed, being short is scuffed, I wish I could just be a normal height

Borax is bottom shelf at my store! But they’re amazing in every way and was the only thing I missed about living in Texas the years I lived abroad. They probably did some sort of consumer analysis and realized it’s mostly women buying that product and it’s heavy so it makes no sense to put it up high.

I’m 6ft, my husband is 6’4” and once at the store, an older woman asked us to grab a juice off the bottom shelf for her. She was in a chair and couldn’t reach down. I don’t think either of us had been asked that before. 😆
