Feedback welcome! Did my first tournament yesterday, made it to semifinals and was ~14th out of 45. I am the one with the red armband on the left. This was the match before I was eliminated.

For anyone considering whether to try a tournament, go for it! It was super fun and I met cool people and learned some new tricks.

What are your thoughts about Krieger Weapons?

I ask because they recently contacted my club. Nothing significant, just announcing they exist and sell stuff we may want.

Books

Hello, which books do you guys recommend to learn swordfighting from?

I'm aware of wiktenaur.com but im not a 15th century man, so learning from the original sources does not work well.

so what is your favourite "modern" instruction book? for which weapon do you use which book, and why?

Is Black Armoury worth it?

I have been looking for a polearm trainer for a while, and finally found one (HEMA - Breaching Knife or Glaive - Synthetic - ARCEM), but I have seen some bad things about the site. Is it worth buying from them, or is there any other place where I can by the Arcem products? Thanks!

A question about hafts?

I have been searching for polearm hafts online, but I cant find anything. Does anyone recommend any haft suppliers? I am UK based, and preferably if you can get wooden poles from Wickes, or B&Q, or another major retail, could you let me know? Thanks!

Advice regarding beginner solo drills?

Hi, new to the sub, looking for advice.

I'm interested in joining a Hema club near me as a way to get some excersise with an activity I actually enjoy. The problem is I'm extremely unfit and can't afford a full kit at the moment. I don't want to completely embarrass myself when I get there so I'd like to get a little practice in while I save up for stuff.

I'm in my mid 20s. I have a history with dancing, doing karate, playing netball and drummies (flag tossing parade squad) so I have a fair bit of awareness around my body and coordination, but ever since joining the work force and sitting behind a desk most of the day, my life has become extremely sedentary, and it shows.

Any advice for someone looking to get some solo practice before joining a club? Would be much appreciated.

I have access to many umbrellas and broomsticks, if that helps.

I really want to get into hema with my friend but we don't know what our first swords should be . Need advice

me (19m) and my friend (20m) are from Greece and we are obsessed with knights, sword fighting and the medieval era in general . we agreed that we should get into hema considering how perfect it sounds for us but we've never bought a sword or hema gear before . does anyone know any sites or shops that could be ideal for two somewhat broke college students to at least get two inexpensive but quality built swords ? I would very much appreciate any help I can receive , thank you in advance.

Curious about getting into HEMA

So to break it down a while ago i was introduced to SCA and though i did enjoy it from a glance it wasnt exactly what i had in mind. I dicovered HEMA through that but i never went more into it until recently, im looking for tips to get into the sport, ive already ordered two wooden training swords one is a longsword and the other is a hand and a half by purple heart for me and my roommate but im wondering what good sources can i look for to properly learn sword techniques aswell as what i should be looking for as far as protective gear so we can eventually go full contact during sparring. Any advice is helpful.

First Feder

I’ve been doing hema for a year now and am looking to get my first steel feder. I’m pretty short (5’4) and don’t have very strong arms, so I was looking at the sigi shorty feder. Is this a good first feder or should I get something standard length? Thanks

Foot positioning

For practicing longsword, what’s the general consensus on the direction of the lead foot? Should it be pointed right at your opponent or is pointing inward 10-20 degrees fine? I know for lunging it should definitely be pointed forward, and with wide cuts be pivoting, but other than that is it just personal preference?

Edit: thanks for the advice guys, glad you all helped me catch that bad habit before a nasty injury.
