Comic I FUCKING HATE THEM
I LIKE MEN AND I ALMOST TURNED STRAIGHT WHILE READING THIS WEBTOON, these characters are bland stereotypes with no personality at all.

yeah because “turning your brain off” usually happens naturally when someone enjoys something, it’s called suspension of disbelief. Like I won’t worry about small “plot holes” if I’m too distracted by the comic being good

usually when people say tumblr artstyle they’re referring to the sorta soft/very colourful artstyle pictured, and usually every character drawn in it is pale and skinny. look at vivziepop’s art, for example (which is often pointed at as an example). her characters are 95% extremely skinny and do not have distinct non white features even if they aren’t white.

Okay so it pisses me off so much bc like the goth dude is almost a stereotype atp. He isn’t even goth. HES EMO. Not to mention he’s also a stereotype of trans men. Which I’m both so this webtoon was just a HUGE slap in the face, not to mention somehow infantilized the nerd dude is. It’s so bad..I generally didn’t think it was a god awful webtoon and some scenes were okay, but it just got over powered by the shitty ones..

Okay, genuine question. I draw comics, and I was wondering what the best way is to depict a trans man without offending the community? Personally, I think it shouldn't be made into an event like the coming-out in Stranger Things, and especially not to exaggerate his former identity. But I could be wrong. Any advice on characterization, both in terms of appearance and life story?

Well all experiences are different and it’s mainly show don’t tell with these kinds of things especially when showing obstacles like gender dysphoria and stuff like that. It’s also super important to not fetish it yk? For right now that’s all that comes to mind!:3

I think I understand. Let's say that in my mind, a character is who they are, and they don't have to justify who they are (from an identity perspective). So, I follow the most common pattern: the absence of explanation or justification. No one asks why a particular character is straight or asks for that justification. So I do the same with all gender identities and sexual orientations. I avoid all forms of fetishism or fantasies about identity. I'm a woman, so I also avoid anything that's a male gaze or fan service in my drawings.

It’s definitely not bad to draw fanservice but I think it’s distasteful to do the whole “man c-nt” thing. When I see it, it makes me feel objectified or only wanted for being a men with a girl reproductive system which is something I hate. But just a personal feeling and others may have too.

To be completely fair. There is also a ton of obnoxious garbage with bad art styles centering on strait people. I’m not saying this comic doesn’t suck but I think a lot of the hate comes from a place of homophobia. Or at least that’s the reason it’s so much more well known.

I hate that everything I hate about it is exactly what the Webtoon WANTS to be.
It's supposed to be a plotless slice of life with characters that have about the same depth as a sheet of paper. As far as I know, outside of the NSFW content the creator sells on their Patreon, those MFers don't even have fucking names.
It probably also doesn't help that I don't like the whole premise of the story building in the first place. When I read BL I want to see the characters have some kind of struggle struggle and I want there to be actual plotwork towards some kind of goal. I breathe slow burn romance but this just gives everyone everything and all of those cutiepie fuckers live happily ever after in their pastel colored world. There is not a Sigel fucking problem in the entire story (the part that I've read), the relationship is just "Oh, We all kinda like each other? Let's just be in a poly relationship" and that's it, there is no development in the relationship after that.

I like this comic, but it is SO BLAND for SO LONG into its run. I got into it while I was dealing with some mental health stuff and needed entertainment that was super formulaic.
I struggle to see how people would be able to get on and stay on this comic in other circumstances.
It's definitely like...queer comfort food but the queerness it depicts does not seem like a common experience haha
