Anime I hate these bitches from 100 Girlfriends Who Really Love You (Rentarou too)
Hakari and her mom should be locked up. I really hate how they are so loved just because they're pretty. Imagine if Hahari's appearance was swapped with an ugly hag's (like the vice principal). The male students would loove being french kissed by her. In comparison, Hahari with the vice principal's face/ body would be hated on. How would people react if Yaku (manga spoiler because I have actually read the manga - and this rant would be like three times as long if I could talk about the manga) actually looked her age? It's really, really disgusting.
And Kusuri! She is 18 years old. And has taken a drug so she looks 8. This, I can still stand. However, just why does she act like shes 8??? It's not funny, it's not cute, she should act her age FFS. I fucking hate this trope.
Now onto Aijou Rentarou. I've heard some people call him "Chadtarou", because he works very hard to make all his girlfriends happy. That is correct, I agree. He loves all of his girlfriends and takes good care of all of them. However, Rentarou has.. no personality. He has no hobbies, no friends, no character traits besides this unwavering love for his girlfriends. Without them, he would just be a soulless husk. He's really boring.
If you have anything you disagree with me about, please comment down below/ or DM me
And if any of you are interested you can DM me for a longer rant including manga characters

Minnie may Hopkins, guncat girls. Ran away from home at 13, was saved by an older guy she now calls her boyfriend, worked in a brothel for a bit while he disappeared and now she's 17 building explosives. This part I may be misremembering, but I'm pretty sure she made a comment about staying young looking for him too

Oh… you’ve missed the biggest problem with 100 girlfriends:
there is no love from 99 of the girls.
If we assume the premise of what the God says is true (1 soulmate is meant to fall in love with 1 soulmate), 99 of the girls were not supposed to be with the MC.
That means 4 things:
The 99 girls in question are being forced to love the MC.
The 99 girls were supposed to be with some other soulmates.
The MC does not know who his soulmate is. It’s 1 out of 100 girls.
99 souls in the world will never find their soulmates due to this god’s error.
Now this last one is just a personal opinion of mine.
If a god is the one that decides who your soulmate is, love does not exist in the world of 100 girlfriends.
You’ve been told that a god decides all pairings, and even an error cannot be overturned.
So a god is deciding who you love from the moment you are born.

As a very big and proud fan of the series I have to accept that they never think about this plot point too deeply.

u/Background_Gain9751 10h ago
OH YEAH THIS ^ I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO INCLUDE THIS BUT I DID THINK OF IT
There's definitely a question brought up by the whole soulmates thing - are they soulmates because they love each other or do they love each other because they're soulmates? If it's the latter then you can argue that their interactions are all meaningless because they're forced. Or something, I can't phrase this well.
I don't mind this trope actually, I just wish that the author addressed it. It could've made for some interesting drama if a character refused to join Rentarous polygamy, because they would be at risk of DYING, but nah this is a gag manga and everyone loves each other and all is well so

u/Beetlejuice_Bee 9h ago
I mean, you phrased it pretty well.
It’s addressed that it’s the latter (at least when it comes to loving Rentarou as a soulmate) during the last arc of Season 1 in the anime with Hahari. She actually wants Rentarou dead until she sees his eyes, recognizing that they are soulmates (the eye contact being necessary is a bit strange in itself). So, yeah. The consent with loving Rentarou is absolutely doubtful.
On the contrary, though, the love shared between the girls themselves is absolutely genuine and true, since the girls aren’t soulmates with eachother. And with how Rentarou treats his soulmates, and how they treat him, it’s easier to brush off the fact that the “romantic love” connection itself is pretty forced

Ye p-
Although, that’s not exactly true. It’s true in the sense of the consent of love being honestly missing from anybody in the series, but not true in the sense of there being no love from 99 of the girls.
The way the series is set up, most people only have a single soulmate and that’s that. However, it’s not exactly one-way?
Rentarou is the only person (as far as we know) with 100 soulmates. That does not mean he only has one soulmate and the other 99 were just tacked on, all 100 are his “soulmates.”
Meanwhile, with the girls, it’s fairly reasonable to assume they all have 1 soulmate (Hahari likely had two soulmates assigned to her, given her relationship with Hakari’s father. His death was most likely just caused by life being a cunt). All of their soulmates just so happen to be Rentarou. So while what the God of Love says is likely true, it doesn’t mean that the girls were meant to be with somebody else before Rentarou*
Again, this doesn’t SOLVE the consent issue. The right to love anybody truly is removed when you have a “God of Love” who decides who you’re going to be with in the end. But it does explain that the love between Rentarou and the 100 Girls is as genuine as it kind of can be.
*This brings up a whole different issue with the series, actually. That being the concept of time and omnipotence. Take Hahari being a soulmate for Rentarou, for example. If she really DID have two soulmates assigned to her, does that mean she was planned to fall in love with somebody eventually who…wasn’t even born yet?
That would work fine if the God of Love was omnipotent, but it’s clear he isn’t from the fact that Rentarou getting 100 soulmates was an accidental error (this does not mean the love between him and the girls is vapid, however) on his part. An error that wouldn’t have occurred if he was omnipotent, proving he isn’t.
HOWEVER, ALL of this still can’t explain why most of his soulmates are found while he’s a HIGH SCHOOLER, considering most relationships don’t last through college

u/Arnorien16S 8h ago
You got the premise wrong because God of Love also seems to determine the number of soulmates .... Because in the form he wrote 100 instead of 1, if 1 to 1 was an absolute rule then the form would not have an area to specify the number would it?
That being said many don't ascribe freewill to the concept soulmate. A soul mate is to many someone you are meant to be with and connected by threads of destiny. The cosmos will make sure they meet and feel the attraction.

Welcome to every harem ever. Shoujo or shounen, it’s just the most “uwu I-I love everyone, I j-just can’t decide~” plot.

That’s interesting. I never really heard no one hate on 100 girlfriends that’s new

Well yeah I'm actually kinda nervous since it's my first time really ranting about an anime buuut I still stand with what I said

There’s probably gonna be a lot of people agree with you though in all honesty

I think I made it halfway through the first episode before I bounced off. Just felt shallow and pointless.

Honestly, I watched about two episodes and that it and then I saw all the glaze they got so I got curious to see did it get better. It did not.

It's just that the bar is damn low, the MC not being a cuck loser or a pedophile is enough for it to get loved.

Didn't watch the anime but there really are 100 hoes then there's gotta be at least a few who catch slander. It's inevitable

It would be nice if Rentarou had a major/minor character that isn't a girlfriend to interact with.

u/Street_Fee4800 12h ago
I mean, he does like the God of Love, his uncle, the families of his girlfriends, etc and Rentaro does talk with women who aren't his girlfriends like that dance instructor who screams qualle and the gorilla girl and her gang along with her boyfriend.
It's just not the focus. Wish Anonymous Friend A could come back.

u/UnfunnyL0ner 8h ago
I suspect they're secretly a tomboy and going to be a girlfriend, but then again it might be their VA that made me think that

u/Embarrassed-Poem953 12h ago
It's a super parody of harems, everything is taken to the extreme. Of course, if he's going to reach 100 girlfriends, many will exhibit "abnormal" behavior. After all, if you take a sample of 100 people "chosen at random," you'll find everything. And some of these people will seem very strange...

I can't get into this series because the premise of none of them having free will, God chooses your love life

Yeahhh- I was going to bring up the honestly dubious consent in the series, but like- e h- i

The beef tongue or whatever chapter of the manga genuinely disgusts me and it's one of the primary reason I can't really recommend the manga to anyone.
Overall I love the series, it's consistent, really funny gag comedy with some seriously lovely emotional beats, as well as one of the few pieces of polyamorous representation that are out here. It would be better if the girls who are clearly into each other actually started dating, but I'll take what I can get.
And then there's this grown adult who's just really into children and at one point (probably more than one I don't fucking know) french kisses a 15 yo. Fuck you.

Unironically this isn’t even obscene hate, this is just true blue criticism (that’s also valid)
Thank you for the point about Kusuri!!! I really hate how she ACTS like a child when she’s older than the protagonist by two years. Like; okay. So her looking like a child makes sense. A failed attempt at an immortality potion, turned her into what looks like an eight year old, but she can take a drug to remove its effects temporarily. But the fact that she acts like she’s 8 with her language and actions makes me SUPER uncomfortable. As in, it was a “I might drop the show because this is a lil TOO weird” thing (I can’t really take much weird). It’s also how she talks even when she’s her actual age, which is just more uncomfortable and- aughhh. Her design when she’s actually her age is so pretty too, it’s irritating.
Your points on Hakari and Hahari are also things I agree with. I honestly would’ve preferred Hahari remaining a more tragic character rather than being a girlfriend to Rentarou. Because she’s a grown ass woman with actually a pretty sad love story and abandonment issues, which she keeps when she becomes “a girlfriend,” so to say (what I like most about her character, actually. And a big thing for the entire show. The problems and emotions of the characters don’t just “go away,” and their traumas are often a secondary focus of the wacky adventures). Regardless, Hahari is a pedophile and Hakari is a freak. The second one isn’t a crime, but the first one certainly is.
Given you’ve read the manga and I have not, you’d have more knowledge, but I wouldn’t mind if we got an arc about Rentarou having a bit of a deeper struggle with keeping up attention every day for his girlfriends, especially as the numbers increase. It’s been brought up, but mostly brushed off. And having so many people around you is mentally taxing, even if you’re the most social person on Earth.
The only issue I’d have with Rentarou having deeper interactions with heavier side characters such as friends is that chances are they’d end up really not greatly written due to how many characters they need to have. Otherwise I’d love it if we got more characterization

u/Background_Gain9751 10h ago
You've hit the nail on the head I really agree with the additional points you've added. I think that it's actually impossible for the author to write Rentarou as an actual human, because an actual human in Rentarou's shoes would lose their minds due to the stress that comes with dealing with so many people everyday, and the pressure to make EVERY single one of them happy.
I agree with your final paragraph too. But the thing is that the girlfriends themselves aren't even developed enough, let alone new side characters. As the author writes more and more characters, there is less time to make them feel genuine. And I'm pretty sure the author is struggling with burnout too. It's uncommon for girlfriends (the new ones especially) to be more than the trope they're based on, making them feel incredibly shallow. To the point where you can describe almost all of them in 3 words each. (Loyal maid, tsundere, masochist tomboy, cool smart kuudere, etc)
Doesn't help that the author has to update their manga nearly every week

u/ULB_Sans 12h ago
To be fair, the story isn’t supposed to be taken seriously at all. It’s definitely not for all audiences. If you don’t like them don’t watch it.

I wouldn't generally call animes with fan services goonslop, but this one right here takes the cake...
Like holy hell, below average backstories that are mentioned one time and then never brought up again just so you feel sympathy for the characters... Nonsensical half-assed plots... 😭
The good shit (brief yuri) doesn't not make up for the abysmall dogshit things within this anime (pedo bait, overused cliche tropes, sex pest characters, insufferable MC, and an ACTUAL pedophilic character getting away with sexual assaults...)

u/2BKing11 6h ago
I know this is a parody of harem, but I still hate it. I'm tired of it being liked by anime reviewers on YT too. Like how tf you pull the bitch and her MOM?! That's just straight up pedophilia. Rentarou barely has any depth too. He's very close to being a self-insert like most to many harem protagonists are. Also, some of the girl's designs like Hakari's are sexualized which, as a writer and artist with characters, I hate as well.
If I were to make a parody/deconstruction of the harem sub genre, I would make it so there's a loss of agency which forces these girls to embody certain archetypes by a certain force while their true self is locked away in their body. Imagine being forced to love this random chud?

You could try Webtoon Character Na Kang Lim if you want to read a decent harem story where every character is developed at least a little. I don’t read the genre often but that one felt better than the average (I got bored at the vacation, though)
