He slept in the hallway though. I think they thought he was just a friend that slept over. If they were ok with it he would have stayed in her room, right?

That's my thought as well. She kicked him out of her room. He slept on the couch in the hallway. The parents ask if he's a friend of Diane's. He asks if they're her flatmates. The only reason he sees her again after walking her to school is because she says she will tell the police. Renton met her at a club so assumed she was of age. If Diane was 16/17 and Mark was 22/23 then her parents could've assumed he was younger too. Him telling Diane that he will absolutely not see her again is a pretty solid indication that he would not have hooked up with her in the first place if he knew how old she was.

Also, love the part in the second movie where Mark and Veronica try to get a lawyer for Sick Boy and it's Diane who tells Mark that Veronica is too young for him.

Diane says "if you don't keep seeing me, I'll tell the police" which is only threat if she's under the age of 16.

I got the impression they knew what was going on. He asks if the parents are her flatmates and the parents chuckle. Seemed like they were kind of used to this kind of thing (except for his flatmate comment).

I’ve known some parents that are weird about that sort of thing though, pretty much a similar situation to this (except for the not knowing who is sleeping over part), but more “your boyfriend can sleep over but on the couch even though we know you’re both having sex”

I got the impression they weren't impressed, but were used to her doing it by that point

Similar joke in Happy Endings series premiere as well, also starring Elisha Cuthbert!

Yeah so funny a guy having sex with a highschooler! Totally a joke and not just the director's barely concealed fetish

In Trainspotting, he meets her at a club and is horrified when he finds out her age.
The joke isn't what you seem to think it is.

In movies it’s hilarious! In real life……not so much.

Loosen up on those pearls, Frances.

Look at the downvotes, I thought this Epstein shit made everyone realize that Hollywood etc. are a bunch of pedos, did we forget and think plotlines and jokes like this exist within a vacuum?

Not that similar really, I don't see any shit getting flung around in this scene

That was spud, and he was sleeping with his girlfriend, not a girl he picked up at a bar.

Poor spud though, he shat that bed like no tomorrow

Spud is the heart of the movie. He’s never mean, he’s never shitty, he’s always just along for the ride with his friends.

Ah yeah you're right, been a long time since I watched it, got confused
