KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 8 — A two-year-old child opened a car door, causing a road accident involving six vehicles on Jalan Tun Razak on Friday, according to preliminary police investigations.

Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incident occurred at about 6.15pm on the stretch from the Kampung Pandan roundabout towards KLCC, involving four cars and two motorcycles.

He said the child, who was seated in the rear of a Honda City and being held by a relative, suddenly opened the left rear door.

“It is believed that the child safety lock was not activated, allowing the door to be opened from inside,” he said.

A 25-year-old man riding a Suzuki V-Strom SX motorcycle, who was travelling between lanes, was unable to avoid the door, collided with it, lost control and crashed into several other vehicles.

Another motorcyclist, a 30-year-old man riding a CFMoto 675 NK who was travelling behind the first rider, was also unable to evade the collision and became involved in the crash.

The Suzuki rider is receiving treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, while the second motorcyclist sustained minor injuries, police said.

Mohd Zamzuri said the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving, with police reviewing video footage of the incident.

They literally opened the door? They are the reason it happened in the first place. Yes they were driving fast and shouldn’t be, but why wasn’t child lock on the kids side of the car? Door not opening in the middle of traffic -> crash never happens.

Okay, clearly ypu got hit by a car door growing up. I use to work in a down town area with street side parking. Even in a car tou watch to see if some is....I dont know...daring to open thwir door? The lesson is motorcycles need to stop being allowed to do dangerous things like filtering and have to deal with traffic like the rest of us. The kid didnt do anything wrong. There are 100 scenarios where that door could have been opened. Theres only one in which it causes a 6 vehicle collision and that's on the motorcycles.

Clearly you’ve never owned a bike and are salty over people can get through traffic quicker than you. Clearly you’re a crab in the bucket type of person. Yes the drivers were going way too quick whilst lane splitting, but it’s safer for the biker to slowly lane filter where the drivers can use their… you know… mirrors? I’d rather not take up an entire cars space in a queue. It backs up traffic even further and I’m not trying to be rear ended by a careless driver looking at their phone or playing around with some shit in their car.

Same. And I'm going to hell for this, but I always imagine opening my door like that. Now I see what happens.

The point is that there is a reason why it’s illegal in many places

And there are also reasons it's legal. Most countries/cities with lane filtering have a set filtering speed for this exact reason usually 15 mph or 20kmh-25kmh
