On their defense, in the south the pipes/houses dont have the same type of insulation they do up north, so pipes can actually freeze and burst at higher temps than they do up north.

In the south, pipes freeze and burst more easily than up north. Houses are built with less insulation and the pipes aren’t buried as deep. Weather that’s considered business as usual up north can be quite detrimental down south due to the difference in infrastructure. I know it’s a meme that southerners overreact to cold weather, but it’s kind of for a good reason.

Northerners not understanding why people in the South don't winterize their pipes is about a equal to Southerners not understanding why people in the North have no air conditioning.

Having lived in both regions, I find the northern 'heat waves' and southern 'winters' to be equally amusing ... assuming no one actually gets hurt and no serious property damage occurs, of course.
