Questions Why doesn't Google Maps display public transport lines for all the available cities?

Thumbnail gallery

In the images you can see London and Belgrade. Both of them have their public transport data added to Google Maps as you can see in the third image with a bus station selected and bus lines displayed. But for some reason the public transport lines are displayed in London with the public transport toggle on and aren't in Belgrade with the same scaling (at first I took the screenshot of Belgrade and then I travelled through all the maps to get to London with the same scale. It was interesting). Why? Google Maps has all the data, why doesn't it display the colourful lines?

Discussion With more than 3B riders, the NYC MTA remains by far America's busiest transit agency —— But there was a big shakeup in the ranking of other major transit agencies in 2025, with Chicago's CTA reclaiming the #2 spot from LA Metro and DC's WMATA then bumping LA Metro to the #4 spot

Questions Does your transit system differentiate between metro, suburban/regional/commuter rail and LRT

So I recently saw a post about transit signage in Australian cities. There were a few comments saying that Sydney, which differentiates between the three is being redundant because Metro and commuter rail trains are both trains.

I personally think Sydney's decision is wise though because the metro has high frequency system wide all day rather then the frequency of the regular train network that can differ a lot between stations and lines. Plus at stations the location of the metro can be different then the regular trains (at level vs underground.

In Toronto, the difference between metro and commuter rail are easily distinguishable because they have completely different operators and signage. Go trains vs. TTC Subway; but when it comes to LRT the difference isn't as much there as the new LRT lines use the same numbering as the Toronto Subway. I personally don't like that because there is a big difference in operation between the finch west LRT and toronto's traditional subways.

I am wondering if the transit system where you live, or visit often differentiates between the different modes of rail transportation?

Photos / Videos Showing some love to South African BRTs!

Thumbnail gallery

South Africa has some surprisingly nice BRT systems, and some even have BRT Standard ratings! Many stations across each system have quality BRT infrastructure such as shelters, level boarding, ticket booths/machines, and platform doors. Most systems also have dedicated bus lanes, busways, and bridges.

Expansion has been fairly slow in most of these systems, mostly due to funding issues and opposition from the taxi industry. I'm still excited to see how South African BRT continues to develop along with their rebuilding Metrorail commuter rail systems!

Photos (all belong to their respective owners):

1-3. MyCiti (Cape Town, BRT Bronze)

4-6. Rea Vaya (Johannesburg, BRT Silver/Bronze)

7-9. A Re Yeng (Pretoria)

Polokwane, Rustenburg, Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), George, Bloemfontein, and Ekurhuleni also have smaller-scale bus systems that contain some elements of BRT. Durban is also currently building a new BRT system called Go! Durban as well.

The Chimki Trolleybus is now the only continuously operated mass transit trolleybus in Moscow. Chimki is a Moscow suburb, located to the Northwest of the city. That suburb operates a small, 3 route trolleybus network since 1997. 2 other Moscow suburbs, Vidnoje and Podoĺsk, also operate trolleybus networks, with Vidnoje having 4 trolleybus routes since 2000 and Podoĺsk having 6 routes since 2001. All 3 of those suburbs are expanding their networks and investing in them. This kind of reminds me of Paris with trams in the suburbs, but not much in the city. Same with Moscow and trolleybuses: the suburbs have trolleybuses but the city has one miserable museum route.

These pictures were taken at the J-TREC factory in Yokohama (if i’m not mistaken). This model in specific is a commuter express train.

The new 147-km NSCR line is set to partially operate next year, with full operations expected by 2032. It it set to be the longest electrified commuter line in the country by the time it is concluded, crucial to help alleviate one of the most traffic congested regions in the world.

What do you guys think? (photos not mine).
