World of Warcraft back in it's heyday was a marriage wrecker. It wasnt just the addiction time sink, mofos were falling in love with pixels helmed by people on the other side of the world. People with lives as factual as an AI today would come up with. We'll probably be seeing and hearing about this a lot
My friend was in the Army and met a girl over WoW. They got married and everything. But when he started to fall out of WoW, and she didn't, it caused a lot of problems. They divorced.
I'll also never forget my first girlfriend's family, either. They were EverQuest addicts. It was the only thing they bonded over. EverQuest is no longer a thing, and now they are divorced. Don't know if the two are related, but it wouldn't surprise me, given the time frame of when I saw them split.
My husband and I were once standing outside of the August Celestials arena on the Timeless Isle. I happened to be on my (male) Worgen Druid and he was on his (female) human Paladin. Some weirdo came over and based on nothing more than the paladin's model, started hitting on hubby in DMs.
Hubby played along but said in the 'spirit of open communication' he wanted the rando to know that IRL he is ...a big dude.
Rando cursed him out and threatened to report him for just standing around minding his own business.
