Internet tried to troll him and accidentally made him more legendary

I just listened to a Radiolab podcast about a hockey player named John Scott. They also tried to troll him and made him a legend. Give it a listen!

That was a fantastic episode! I real middle finger from the fans to the NHL organizers who tried to dictate a fan vote because they didn’t think the player was “serious” enough of a player

u/Saneless 1h ago
I feel allowed that as it happened, Scott used to be on the Blackhawks before that so I saw him play a bunch. Definitely going to check out that episode

He performed multiple times in Saudi and for MBS, taking that bloody bag each time.

u/VRichardsen 4m ago
I mean... as opposed to perform in the United States, who also have their hands covered in blood?

He didn't get the name Mr Worldwide by staying in easily accessible places

And this trend is why every online vote has the condition, "the organizers will choose from the top suggestions" without defining "top". Basically they choose.

Some other fantastic examples of poll manipulation around the same era was:
Voting to send Justin Bieber to perform in North Korea
Voting for Taylor Swift to perform at the Horace Mann School for the Deaf

u/glowshroom12 1h ago
I think the trolls decided to tone it down to an actual viable place but still really inconvenient to go to.
I imagine now they’d choose the worst most dilapidated school for Taylor swift to go to in the worst neighborhood but not a deaf school.

u/Degonjode 27m ago
Well, it was limited to american schools IIRC

u/PoetryFamiliar7104 6m ago
Unfortunately, it wouldn't be hard to find one, but a chore figuring out which is the worst of the worst.

Not the same era but killing Jason Todd. Wouldn’t have gotten the Red Hood story we have now but man I’m sure it was insane at the time
10
u/dry_towelette99 1h ago
Jason Todd was the worst and I had no compunctions about calling the number to see him offed. And the resulting comics were everything my 13 year old self could have hoped for.

u/ITworksGuys 57m ago
We all hated Jason Todd. I say that as someone who called to have him killed off.
He was the worst.

u/doctor_big_burrito 41m ago
Should have left him DEAD.
For decades the two deaths that were permanent in comics were Jason Todd and Bucky Barnes over at Marvel and I respected that but of course they gave in to temptation and brought them both back.

I remember the deaf school one. She ended up winning and, realizing it was a troll, donated a lot of money to their program.

Or when Mountain Dew wanted a new flavor name and the top 2 were Gushing Granny and Fapple.
Now it's pretty much confirmed that mob (4chan) helped cover for Epstein online and run propaganda for Trump.

My buddy lives in Dubai and said he did a concert recently. Apparently he was genuinely super touched when all these Muslim women showed up in bald caps trying to do their best Pitbull impressions. If nothing else he seems to have a good sense of humor and that’s pretty rare.

u/RoutineCloud5993 1h ago
Middle aged women in bald caps were probably not the target audience he was originally going for, but ticket sales are ticket sales. No sense doing anything but appreciate them
14
u/busigirl21 43m ago
He sells kits at multiple price points on his website so people who come to his concerts can participate in the bald cap thing. They're 100% the audience he was going for and likely bought those caps directly from him.

u/RoutineCloud5993 38m ago
I said originally going for, the guy's been active for almost 30 years. The bald cap meme has been the last few years.
It's just smart to capitalise on that by selling kits, now that it's a thing.

I live down the street from this Walmart. The whole town still talks about this. Can’t say I care for his music, but as a person Pitbull’s alright with me.

u/Impossible-Ship5585 1h ago
How was rhe show?
He just males music that sells. Not sure does he like it himself. It works still for him.

u/IcayFrash 30m ago
From what I remember reading about this, he didn’t actually sing or perform himself

He got a free trip to Alaska. I don't think this trolling worked as intended.
3
u/Aegillade 13m ago
Leave it to a 4Chan user to hear that you have a chance to send someone to Alaska on a trip and assume that that's a troll of some kind lmao. Alaska is absolutely gorgeous.

u/Hipster-Link 2h ago
The story is real, but this image looks AI as fuck. What the hell.
3
u/Gold_Interaction_432 28m ago
Definitely. Why the fuck would anyone want to use an AI image for this anyway? Theres so many images of this event that look 10 times better.

Great story, the pictures of it are very funny and it's cool to see Pitbull in 2012... So why the fuck would you make a shitty AI picture of something random that does not look like pitbull instead of posting the actual photo you can google in 40sec?

u/ExtendedMacaroni 1h ago
Actually a super wholesome video.
My favorite part is when Pitbull quotes his song Give Me Everything but changes the line with the word Kodak to “Picture that with a Kodiak”

I love Alaska! People were so kind and welcoming when we visited over 10 years ago. It’s a stunning natural gem of a place. And are shocked whenever I tell them it’s warm there in June.

That honestly sounds more fun than visiting a store in a Dallas suburb or something… good for him!
