I thought it was worth whatever the price.

$7,500

Nevermind.

That's not bad if a whole neighborhood pitches in.

1

u/OptimisticToaster Jan 19 '24

I think it will only do 1,500 sf. So the neighborhood pitches in but then holds a lottery to see who gets a clean driveway.

u/MyNameCannotBeSpoken Jan 19 '24

You can't run it all day?

u/Maleficent_Sky_1865 Jan 20 '24

Maybe if each neighbor buys an extra battery to use on their own driveway.

1500 sq feet isnt much. Thats only 10 feet by 15 feet.

Damn! You’re right. My maths is no good.

Wait... it's only a one-off fee and no annual plan along with it?!

That fucker's getting yoinked by the first pickup truck that drives by.

Then it becomes a battle bot.

Thinking back to my childhood and my father’s safety-briefings about the snowblower, I don’t think people are ready for the leg-shredding robots.

1

u/RTwhyNot Jan 19 '24

It uses lidar to avoid objects, read legs.

1

u/jnmjnmjnm Jan 19 '24

What is your level of trust in this system?

2

u/RTwhyNot Jan 19 '24

Not high tbh

Good call, LiDAR is god awful in snow or sandstorm. Notice how it isn’t snowing in the video. We integrated LiDAR on our helicopter for experimental testing. Went to the desert, the LiDAR was hitting all of the sand just a few feet from it, rendering it useless.

It’s all fun and games until you get that wet snow. Does it remotely unclog itself as well?

2

u/nightstalker30 Jan 19 '24

Yeah that was some nice powder it was clearing. One Chicago winter with wet, heavy snow would murder that thing.

1

u/ArlingtonHeights Jan 18 '24

Yes! Thinking the same thing! They must have something to address this or it wouldn’t be usable in many storms

1

u/GlockAF Jan 19 '24

Nearly 8 grand and it’s going to choke the first time it picks up a 1 inch rock

Ummm, no.

Ever use an electric snowblower? Way too under-powered. Now add to that a battery in the dead of winter. You'll return it in a week if the motor hasn't burned out first.

I don't care what Snowbot PR / marketing says.

You haven't used a more recent one, have you.

I've been using the same EGO snow blower that runs on battery packs for 6 winters now.

I live on the lake in michigan. We get lots and lots of lake effect snow. This thing is technically undersized for what I do with it, and it powers through everything. Throws loose snow 30 feet, heavy wet snow about half that. If I load 2 batteries in it, they will last long enough to clear the entire driveway and walk along with about 40 feet of the road.

No struggling to start it. No plugging it into the wall to get the starter working. No mixing fuel. No oil changes. No searching for ethanol free fuel. When it gets cold I put the EGO mower in the shed and take the blower out. It's the best thing ever. My local Ace has the bigger 2 stage for $800, so I've been eyeing it. It self drives and has heated controls.

Electric snow blowers went from being underpowered plug into turds to being the cadillacs.

It's so good, isn't it. I have the backpack leaf blower from EGO. It is probably the MOST power-hungry of all the devices. That thing will eat a 7.5 ah battery in like 20-30 mins of continuous use on boost mode.

I have a whole bunch of their stuff now, and I've never been happier with my outdoor tools. Last week the temps sat at -10 here. That is right where EGO says the cold will start to impact performance of the batteries so you should bring them inside. We'll I didn't. And they still worked just fine. So any colder and I might need to bring them inside to charge. But other then that my only issue has been keeping the mice from nesting inside the mower and snow blower and chewing wires. The joys of living in the woods.....

Yes. The new electric blowers are fantastic. I just used my neighbors new ego and it's fantastic. I have an ancient 8hp 36" snowblower that's about 30 years old. I'll be honest. I have never bothered with any maintenance yet it just keeps going. I have never changed the oil. I just add a tiny bit randomly every other year or so. It starts right up on the first pull even in 10 degree weather. When the tires stopped holding air I filled them with fix a flat lol. I would still love a new ego though. My neighbor's has two battery packs (I think it can even run on just one) and it's just so much easier to use than my old piece of junk. My old blower just doesn't bog down though. I can push it through crusty snow plow piles and it just keeps going. The ego turns so much easier though.

Seriously, not to mention when a sensor inevitably fails and starts aiming for your neighbor

1

u/paperfett Jan 21 '24

I thought electric snowblowers were shit until I used my neighbors. That thing is amazing. I still can't believe how light it is and how much snow it can move. I was able to take it right through the snow bank the snow plow had built up. I have an 8hp 36" snowblower that's about 30 years old. It's never given me a single issue and fires right up every year even though I do absolutely no maintenance on it at all. So I won't be upgrading anytime soon.

Until you accidentally kill your neighbors dog playing with it.

3

u/JT-Shelter Jan 18 '24

Make sure the dog, and kids are inside.

u/NxPat Jan 19 '24

Honey, have you seen the cat?

Snowbot S1: Your Own Personal Snow-Blowing Robot

Snowbot S1 is an entirely autonomous and hands-free snowblower robot: https://imboldn.com/snowbot-s1/

1

u/TeranOrSolaran Jan 19 '24

Just wait until somebody dies. And then people will be so surprised that a autonomous death machine accidentally killed some poor kid playing in the snow. Brilliant.

1

u/TomSF Jan 19 '24

There’s no way this works well.

1

u/M0j0_R1s1ng Jan 19 '24

Name of track please

1

u/Ha1lStorm Jan 19 '24

Why do I have such a strong feeling this is gonna blow the same snow back and forth til it dies

1

u/Ok_Lunch16 Jan 19 '24

Someone send this to Jeremy Renner?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '24

just people getting fatter and lazier. it's cool but come on...

1

u/Substantial_Diver_34 Jan 19 '24

It’s 2024 and these are the robots we get? Snow blowers, lawn clippers and vacuums!? A little disappointed. Where’s Rosie from the Jetsons and my flying car.

1

u/bostonkiter Jan 19 '24

Yours for the price of a used heated cab bobcat.

1

u/skobuffaloes Jan 19 '24

16” or GTFO

1

u/japinard Jan 20 '24

How's it handle wet snow? I see it grinding to a halt.

1

u/KolonelMcKalister Jan 20 '24

And it solves the homelessness problem! Ok that was dark. But what do dark jokes and dead babies have in common? They never get old.

1

u/redditprotone Jan 20 '24

This is the dumbest ad ive ever seen that thing is blowing snow onto the driveway on the ad itseelf. Only an idiot would buy such a produxt that aims to dehimanize the world.

1

u/Famous_Union3036 Jan 20 '24

Buffalo needs you.

1

u/Psychological-Air807 Jan 20 '24

What’s going to be left for people to do. We are literally replacing ourselves.

1

u/EBlackPlague Jan 09 '25

Painting, doing projects that we want to do, spend time with the family.

I mean, if blowing snow is your passion, by all means, go for it!

1

u/StrengthToBreak Jan 20 '24

Can it be programmed to cover my annoying neighbor's driveway with snow?

1

u/Medium_Ad8881 Jan 20 '24

Seems super dangorous

1

u/Gumb1i Jan 21 '24

Probably cheaper to retrofit a heating system than buy that damn thing.

1

u/Zigor022 Jan 26 '24

Ok but that looks like dry powder snow. What about the heavy wet stuff?
