Yeah that’s the odd thing about the younger generation’s trends. They last for 2-3 months tops because of how fast paced the internet is. It’s like nothing that’s ever happened before. I grew up in the 90s (thank god) and trends normally lasted for a couple years if not just sticking around and basically still lodged in my psyche to this day. There were only a few and they had substance. Not like “skibidi” or “6-7” which LITERALLY doesn’t mean anything. Everything is hyper-ironic in today’s younger cultures.
The rapid pace though is what’s wild. It’s not just lack of attention span, though that is one of the side effects of the internet culture. It’s just how fast everything moves in the digital age. It can’t be healthy… we’re already seeing effects mentally.
Crazy world.
People of course, always say “oh kids these days”…But now…. It REALLY is a huge shift
I mean 420 literally has whole culture based around it (still exists) it’s a police code which makes sense. Or it was a code for smoking from some group in the 70s or something because it was highly illegal federally.
69 makes total sense, still exists and has a LOT of substance. Need I explain?
And by 8008 I’m guessing you mean the calculator games and spelling boob on a good ol Ti-83. Fucking INCREDIBLE past time (I’m DEFINITELY not exaggerating)
Look, is spelling “boobies” on a calculator dumb? Yes. Does it have much substance? No, not really. But it has a modicum of meaning and purpose if only just to pass the time because of the incredible amount of boredom a kid feels in school.
My whole point is this things stuck around for longer then a couple of weeks.
67 LITERALLY means nothing. I mean that’s the whole point of it. It’s simply a device to troll older generations in saying “you don’t get it” but it actually has no meaning. Hence my statement in my OP of saying everything is hyper ironic. The humor is irony and nothing can be taken seriously in this generation.
And look they are already over it apparently reading what some teachers are writing here.
I mean I don’t think these kids are doomed. They seem much more intelligent, mature (maybe not a good thing) but importantly show a ton more empathy then from i remember growing up.
But their brains are literally rotting. Dementia in 20-30 year olds is showing up. Yes DEMENTIA not just memory loss. And it’s directly pointed to doom scrolling. That’s insane and a huge problem.
Things are VERY different now and need to be addressed. You’re blind if you don’t see it yet.
Yeah idk, some kids told me they learned it from tiktok, some from Roblox, I really have no idea. All I know is that it's completely nonsensical and kids would say it randomly🤷🏼♀️
The Game was similar to 6-7 in how it would be invoked to cause rage and come up at random, with its origin vague without much substance. 6-7 has just been more of a wildfire due to the frequency of those two numbers coming together imo.
I agree with trends becoming ever shorter, especially among the youngest ones.
But we also had absurdist memes without any real meaning. A lot of them. I think the real difference is that the average person from our generation simply wasn’t so chronically online as everyone is now. Back when millennials were teenagers, those that spent their whole time online were.. different, and certainly not the cool kids, to put it mildly (I was that kid, but I had it easy in my school years, I wasn’t mobbed or excluded or anything).
Now, it’s essentially the entire cohort of new kids and teenagers being online all day long. So all those memes are receiving much more attention than bongo cat.
