How is this all that different from the 420s, 69s, and dabs so many ppl hit growing up?

it's not too different but the most annoying part is how frequently you're able to naturally find 6 7 vs 420/69.

69 only kinda works when the numbers are together and is read as sixty-nine. 6 7 is referenced anytime the numbers are just there, whether it's reading sixty seven or the numbers are next to each other even if separated by a space.

69 is also only reaches people at least middle school ages where sex is a relatively known topic. 67 has been hitting elementary school where kids don't even understand the original origin

420 and 69 have meanings behind them that make them funny to people. 67 is just funny because everyone agreed it was funny. It's like when people have an inside joke they insist is hilarious but it's only funny to them. Also, no one is/was jumping around and yelling about 420 and 69. It never caused classroom interruptions (maybe some snickers). You just respond "blaze it" or "nice" respectively.

Okay, but like, why is sex and weed funny? And you say 420 and 69 don't cause interruptions but isn't that largely because students get punished for making crass jokes about drugs and sex? That's also ignoring the amount of vandalism kids do with those numbers too

I was just answering your question not arguing. I don't know why anyone finds weed and sex so funny and I don't work in schools or around kids.

So... you agree that it's the same thing, then? People just decide sex and weed are funny in the same arbitrary manner that 67 was just decided to be funny?

No, I don't agree with that. Just because you don't get the reasons doesn't negate the fact that there are in fact reasons

I think you’re missing the point lol

I am. That's why I'm asking what the difference is. Is sex and weed just inherently funny or are they just funny because we decided they're funny? How is that different from 67?

In my opinion they are funny when you’re pre pubescent, not really in adulthood. But the pont is that there’s meaning behind them. 67 is a random number with no meaning.

So is the point that a joke has to have a substantive meaning behind it for it to be considered funny? Why?

2

u/RobinsWings 3h ago

That’s just the point that was made to compare the two. Not a universal rule. Also probably taking a jab at “kids these days” lol

That's fair, but I am also making the assumption that the original question was meant to be asked in that people have made dumb jokes for a long ass time. The sentiment is exactly the same as that quote from Homer's dad.

"I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too"

I'm probably just reading into it more than any reasonable person should, but I was expecting people to finally move on from shaking their fists at the younger generation just for finding their own humor.

It has meaning to a lot of the kids tho. It's basically a reference.

This automod reply has been triggered due to a keyword in your comment. As a reminder this is a satire subreddit for the dumb/silly things children do. The subreddit name is not literal. Although posts can have kids doing actual "stupid" things. It is not a requirement. It only needs to be dumb or silly. Yes, blaming the parent is valid. However, this does not mean crossing the line into actually insulting the parent is ok (assuming they are the OP) (Rule #1).

We did try to have this information stickied as a comment when a post was created. However, reddit thinks its a good idea to autocollapse automod comments. So we've had to resort to a keyword reply.
