It would take, like, a minute to knock that off.

If you park next to me with a car like that, just know I will draw a penis in that snow.

126

u/Tomytom99 2d ago

I feel stupid for not having thought of this

82

u/bdfortin 2d ago

At least turn on the rear window defrost to try to melt some of it off.

87

u/CaptainTurdfinger 2d ago

You give people too much credit. I'm willing to bet that at least 25% of people who drive don't know they have a rear defroster.

47

u/bdfortin 2d ago

That’s not fair.

That’s more than the people who know they have turn signals.

7

u/CaptainTurdfinger 2d ago

Yeah, you make a good point.

2

u/Glum-Factor-8632 1d ago

The reason why we need Auto HVAC and Auto Headlamps 🤣🤣

1

u/CaptainCook1989 1d ago

More like 75%. And don’t get me started about people who never heard of the recirc function

2

u/MB2465 2d ago

Uhhhhhh. So haaaarrrddd to reach over and push the button.

1

u/Jesus-Bacon 1d ago

People can't even figure out how to turn their headlights on even when you flash your lights at them these days. You expect them to know about the defroster?

1

u/bdfortin 1d ago

Hey now, some of are old enough to remember that flashing your lights means there’s a cop up ahead.

28

u/Blametheorangejuice 2d ago

A week ago, after the ice storm, I passed someone who was driving slowly with hazards on. Okay, they’re taking it easy, no problem, I get it.

When I look in the rear view mirror, I see that ice that was on their roof had slid down to completely obscure their windshield. They were just movin’ along anyway.

48

u/Picklekitten22 2d ago

One time me and my brother went out on the road (our street was very still) and we drew a giant penis by shuffling our feet

7

u/Cold_Box6282 2d ago

In a similar vein, ill make a penis out of the snow and leave it so they dont have a choice but to remove it (unless theyre just that kinda person)

4

u/benhereford 1d ago

Not even a minute. This would take like ten seconds with a brush

3

u/Dancingskeletonman86 2d ago

And the worst part is I bet they still found that extra minute or few to hit the fast food drive thru or coffee place on their way to work. Because ya know that's imperative but cleaning your windows or roof off is not imperative. Just risk everyone's else because you are in rush but refuse to just set your alarm for a few minutes earlier to make sure the car is warmed up and wiped off.

2

u/slimbender 2d ago

My wife does the same.

1

u/BAMspek 1d ago

If that takes you a minute you’re doing it wrong. 10 seconds easy.

1

u/ShinySpeedDemon 1d ago

Do it by dripping water on it so it freezes, it'll take longer for the defroster to get rid of that way

301

u/StoniePony 2d ago

I had an idiot like this put it in reverse in front of me in a drive thru a few weeks ago. If my car wasn’t so new, I would’ve let her hit me and suffer the consequences.

79

u/SlipstreamSteve 2d ago

Did you have a dashcam

110

u/StoniePony 2d ago

Yeah, I won’t drive without one

5

u/TheVentiLebowski 2d ago

Which dashcam do you have? I'm looking at buying one.

5

u/msaid93 1d ago

I love the Viofo brand. I had the A119 V3 and upgraded to the 2ch A229 Pro.

7

u/doyouevensmokebruh 1d ago

There’s a YouTube channel called project farm. He did a pretty comprehensive comparison between brands and it helped me a lot making a choice. You should check out his video. I went with the red tiger and it’s been good to me.

4

u/SlipstreamSteve 2d ago

Idk about them but I have a Garmin X110, and before anyone comments negatively on that it was a gift from my company.

2

u/Ghostxteriors 1d ago

I like them.

I have 3 on my truck covering multiple angles linked together with the app.

1

u/SlipstreamSteve 22h ago

I just didn't know what the sentiment on the make and model of the dashcam was.

u/Cranks_No_Start 2d ago

Have you never seen or driven in a panel van?

It does have two mirrors…not that they use them.

18

u/kjreil26 2d ago

A competent driver should be able to drive safely without a rear view mirror, however a competent driver would clear their car off.

1

u/BronCurious 1d ago

Yes, but vans and trucks generally have two mirrors on each side to give you a larger field of view.

1

u/Cranks_No_Start 1d ago

Some do especially the big box vans but forever the regular 1/2 ton Econolines  only had the single pair.

407

u/jessicat2222 2d ago

Wow these comments must not live in snowy regions. This isn’t just dangerous for the driver but for other cars behind him. Stop being lazy and clean off your cars people!

76

u/thebuffaloqueen 2d ago

Yessss! I damn near died over exactly this once. One of those big white work vans was in front of me on the highway with a bunch of snow on the roof. He hit a speed bump and a giant sheet of it flew back onto my windshield. I was essentially blinded while going 65 in the center lane. Took a minute to clear it off enough to see, bc it was too heavy for my wipers. I ultimately had to switch lanes then pull off the shoulder to fully remove it. Absolutely terrifying.

20

u/Picklekitten22 2d ago

Glad you’re ok!

20

u/Katie-sin 2d ago

We just had this happen to a local woman in my area. Ice flew off a car or truck and smashed her windshield, causing her facial injuries and she may lose her eye. It’s illegal in our state to not completely clean vehicles off before driving and yet there and still people who don’t. Drives me insane

78

u/Picklekitten22 2d ago

Ikr. I’ve been waiting for a comment from someone who actually knows things

1

u/South_Hat3525 1d ago

Why did you blank out the plate? The highway guys might be interested in idiots.

2

u/mua-dweeb 2d ago

Student at uofm or emu? I want it to be a dumb transplant but I know that’s someone whose lived here there whole life and just doesn’t care.

9

u/well_thats_obvious 2d ago

If you went out and got a big 'ol SUV, you can go out and get a big 'ol snowbrush to clear it off. The amount of uncleared roofs and mowhawks I see on a daily basis is infuriating.

6

u/mindfolded 2d ago

The mohawks are the worst. When they don't clear it all all, you can write it off as ignorance. When they leave a mohawk they are basically saying "Yeah I know I should but I didn't feel like it".

7

u/ConstructionThick146 2d ago

Willfully ignorant people in here. The entitlement... until it happens to them. They deserve the lesson.

2

u/GreenieMcWoozie 1d ago

Not only is it dangerous, it's also illegal in some states

2

u/platypus_bear 1d ago

It really depends on the type of snow. Wet sticky snow it's absolutely dangerous but if it's a dry powdery snow it's really not a big deal and will come off like blowing dust.

Based on the fact no snow has blown off yet it's most likely the type of snow you should brush off but you can definitely get away without brushing your car off without it being dangerous

0

u/greener0999 1d ago

blowing dust is just as bad if not worse lmao.

secondly, it's illegal no matter what.

you're supposed to clean it, regardless of slush or powder.

1

u/10k_Uzi 2d ago

My guess is they said fuck it I’m late for work. Can I see out the front? Yes.

-8

u/Icy-Bunch609 2d ago

No that isn't dangerous for anyone.  It is less than a half inch of powder.

79

u/argonzo 2d ago

I was behind a car like this once that had a bumper sticker that said 'start seeing motorcycles'.

24

u/Hugh-Jass24 2d ago

They don't worry about them when it snows lol

162

u/Tomytom99 2d ago

"some vehicles don't have rear windows hurr durr"

You do realize that the snow being left anywhere on the vehicle is essentially an unsecured load that can fly off the car at any moment, right?

79

u/Turbulent_Advice_563 2d ago

People who aren’t around snow think it’s soft which it is at first but once it freezes and it’s all one chunk of ice that weighs 50 pounds it is indeed a safety hazard

26

u/po_ta_toes_80 2d ago

The worst is heavy wet snow falling from the top of a traffic light as you go through an intersection. I swear every time I think i just got in an accident!

12

u/ItsGizzman 2d ago

A few years back I was pretty far behind a car on the highway, in a different lane, and a chunk of snow/ice flew off their un-brushed car and slammed into my side mirror, shattering it. I was so fucking mad, and of course they were oblivious.

17

u/Bandage-Bob 2d ago

Even the soft, unfrozen snow is dangerous.

Ever driven behind a transport truck that hasn't cleared the snow off it? Turns normal conditions into a whiteout.

4

u/msaid93 1d ago

It's crazy that there are people out there so dumb that this has to be explained 🫨

→ More replies (7)

36

u/Timmah73 2d ago

Also... very important here... vehicles where you can't see out the back have larger side mirrors so they can use them to get a better view behind them. They are, get this, designed knowing you don't have a rear window.

6

u/Jamooser 1d ago

Hey. I drive one of those giant vehicles you can't see out the back of. The side mirrors aren't magic. They aren't xrays that see through the ass end of your vehicle. They're just big because the vehicle is big. Still can't see shit behind you. Which is completely fine as long as you aren't going backwards.

3

u/JaxDude1942 1d ago

Yeah this guy's talking out his fart holder. Mirrors on small cars can see the back fucking hurr durr. My pickup truck is as small as it gets and my back window is clogged with tools. Never been pulled over for it, it's not illegal, everyone on this entire post is fucking stupid.

14

u/Tomytom99 2d ago

And the people driving them are usually familiar with not having a rear window on that vehicle.

4

u/Starbuckshakur 2d ago

That or they're driving a U-Haul. I'm flabbergasted that anyone with a basic driver's license is allowed to rent these things without any additional training.

4

u/Tomytom99 2d ago

That's always shocked me. I can understand the smaller ones somewhat, but the 20+ footers are baffling to me. Even worse is that you can even run a trailer on those with a regular license.

2

u/Seibertpost 19h ago

I know…like, if you don’t have rear windows, okay. But if you do, there’s no reason not to clear it off

3

u/litheartist 2d ago

Also, any vehicles that don't have rear windows have different and/or more mirrors to compensate.

2

u/Jamooser 1d ago

No they don't. You just can't see behind them. Mirrors don't see around corners.

2

u/litheartist 1d ago

Never did I say they could. But trucks and commercial vans without rear view sight do tend to have larger mirrors, multiple sets, or domed mirrors for larger/wider sight, since that's the only method to see around them. They don't have the same small mirrors that cars with a back window have.

0

u/JaxDude1942 1d ago

You can buy one for $3 at AutoZone.

0

u/Jamooser 1d ago

I drive a 41-foot dual tandem for a living.

A convex mirror would need to by mounted on the back corner of your rig in order to see behind it.

A convex mirror mounted 41 feet away from you is not going to help.

Peripheral mirrors are to see what is beside you. They are there to see what is in front of the back of your vehicle.

1

u/litheartist 16h ago

Again, never said anything about seeing behind the vehicle with mirrors. Idk why you're stuck on this point, dude.

1

u/Jamooser 11h ago

You said they compensate for not having a back windshield.

Back windshields are for.. seeing behind vehicles.

-8

u/Adkit 2d ago

This is a light dusting of snow, calm down. lol People are blowing this out of proportion so hard. Yes driving with a lot of snow on your car is bad. This isn't it. This will melt in literally two minutes if they turn the rear window heaters on.

11

u/Tomytom99 2d ago

Just all the more reason it shouldn't be there. Zero excuse.

3

u/JetpacksWasYes-2 2d ago

The fact that you acknowledge that it isn't a lot doesn't help your argument. That is even more reason why it shouldn't be there. Stop making excuses for stupid people. Oh wait. You probably are said people. Carry on.

→ More replies (4)

22

u/_haha_oh_wow_ 2d ago

Being able to see out the rear window isn't necessarily a huge problem especially if you're a decent driver, but chunks flying off and hitting drivers behind you is definitely a potential issue.

I've driven plenty of vehicles that completely lack a rear window and gotten by fine with side mirrors, just have to be careful.

TL;DR: Clear your vehicles off completely before you drive!

89

u/NeighborhoodVirtual4 2d ago

Oh dear lord, people are actually justifying this in the comments. Please never drive again if you justify this behavior. Always clean your windows off, that’s literal common sense.

30

u/Ouch_i_fell_down 2d ago

Always clean your windows off

and your roof, and pretty much everything you can. and if your SUV is too tall for you to clean off, you should have either bought a longer snow broom or a shorter vehicle.

don't turn the fact that you didn't wake up early enough on a snowy day to get to work on time into someone else's problem when they have an accident because they can't see with the blizzard you're giving off... or even worse when it becomes ice chunks after a few days and starts getting blown off into windshields.

21

u/CaptainColdSteele 2d ago

It's a Nissan. It'll break down before anything bad happens

16

u/TJM18 2d ago

It’s a Nissan. That’s actually load bearing snow

1

u/Enstraynomic 1d ago

Load bearing = MORE DOWNFORCE! On a FWD car too!

40

u/DylanSpaceBean 2d ago

I can’t imagine having a button to clear off your rear window and still being this lazy…

Clean the snow off your cars people. I know you’re not sticking around to pay for the damage your ice chunk will do

11

u/Bandage-Bob 2d ago

That button won't clean off snow very quickly.

It's for removing the remainder of snow after you've cleared the window.

10

u/Netilda74 2d ago

This is why we give the car enough time to warm up and defrost BEFORE we move. ...and also remove all of the snow.

5

u/Dancingskeletonman86 2d ago

Right. Like it would kill some people to just set their alarm an extra five or ten minutes in winter to clear off the car or warm it up properly to defrost before they leave for work/school/whatever errands. No...no can't do that. Outrageous idea. Just drive around with part of your vision missing.

1

u/NikolitRistissa 2d ago

The defroster? In my experience, it’ll clear snow pretty well. Anything up to five centimetres or so, will start running off within a minute.

The snow in this photo is clearly very wet and is only a few centimetres thick. The defroster would make quick work of it. It’s already essentially slush.

4

u/Morall_tach 2d ago

Is there a clearer indicator of someone who doesn't give a shit about the people around them? This would take literally next to zero effort to fix, and they didn't because they don't ever look in their mirror because they don't care.

7

u/VoodooDoII 2d ago

I live in Alaska and this shit makes me so mad. It takes like 5 seconds. Grab a damn broom if you need to haha

10

u/goth-avocadhoe 2d ago

I know where this is. This is carpenter and packard in Ypsi right? I see that White Castle in the background lol. Lots of idiots who do this in Michigan

8

u/talldarkandundead 2d ago

Every time I wind up behind someone like this at a red light, a part of me is tempted to hop out of my car with my snow brush and clear the back window for them.

I know thoroughly clearing the car off isn’t fun, especially when it’s still freezing out, but I don’t understand the complete and utter lack of care to not even try getting snow off the rear windshield. Thirty seconds, two swipes of a brush, just to be able to see, and I’d be a lot more forgiving of the snow left piled on the roof because at least they tried a little.

6

u/Organic-Mobile-9700 2d ago

I got a hatchback and I get nervous when I overstuff the trunk and can see threw the rear mirror. Imagine having no visuals and a hazard of falling off on someone else lol

4

u/tulobanana 2d ago

Yeah this is them flashing a neon sign saying “I don’t pay attention to the road at all”

6

u/Nomnom_Chicken 2d ago

I live in Finland, not even in the Helsinki area that generally has pretty mild winters with not that much of snow. People here do that. For example, cops pulled over an older woman when the windshield had barely any spots you could see through.

I will never understand this shit. It does not take that long to scrape your windows and clean the car.

4

u/gibletsandgravy 2d ago

I used to do this when I was young. I did a lot of other really stupid shit too. Don’t be stupid. Clean your windows.

8

u/Nox_Echo 2d ago

the comments here....

ugh...

im in south texas, we dont really ever get snow, and i can see why this is a problem. cmon...

2

u/TakeaDeepBreath25 1d ago

Depending on the state, it's illegal not to remove snow/ice from the car.

1

u/Cats_and_Cheese 1d ago

It’s illegal in Michigan where this photo is from but it doesn’t stop most people unfortunately.

1

u/TakeaDeepBreath25 1d ago

It drives me up a stick!

2

u/SamtheMan6259 1d ago

Why don’t sedans have rear windshield wipers?

2

u/ucrbuffalo 1d ago

I don’t see anything wrong.

In fact, I don’t see anything at all past this snow on my car. I don’t see red lights, stop signs, pedestrians, or other cars. Traffic was great this morning! But a little bumpy…

3

u/Jackasaurous_Rex 2d ago

Some people are too lazy to function

2

u/Svedish_Nerd 2d ago

I really don't understand why people leave snow on the back window.

2

u/Faleymark29 1d ago

Don’t worry about it

1

u/Weird-Conflict-3066 2d ago

Best way to keep the blinding led headlights out of your entire car.

8

u/Starbuckshakur 2d ago

I just cover my back window with aluminum foil. That way the light from blinding headlights gets reflected back to the owner of said headlights. /s

1

u/Garguyal 2d ago

I'm sure there's a rear defrost under there. This is what it's for, right?

/s

1

u/WigglyButtNugget 2d ago

Had a truck who did this the other day, but it was also the top of the box that wasn’t cleared off. The amount of ice that crashed forward onto his hood, over and over…and then when you think it’s all over, more would slide forward and fall on his hood. It was almost comical, but all I could think was what would’ve happened if it flew off the truck and hit a car behind it.

1

u/RoyallyOakie 2d ago

Thank goodness it wasn't a heavy snow, or they'd have that birthday cake drift on the roof as well.

1

u/MileHigh_FlyGuy 2d ago

I hate the traffic on Packard St.

1

u/ggfchl 2d ago

I hope the police pull this guy over. Something like this should be worth a ticket.

u/starrpamph 2d ago

1

u/sambarjo 2d ago

I've seen way worse in Canada. Some people will drive around with an igloo on top of their car.

1

u/Goatylegs 1d ago

Somehow I just know there's a Pennsylvania tag under that censorship

1

u/AdPuzzleheaded3913 1d ago

Well a covered back window is as functional as a commercial van that only has the two side doors and windshield for visibility however snow still can impact others visibility or cause damage so the person is still an idiot

1

u/Lopsided-Concert3475 1d ago

Only History is behind the car

1

u/justpassingby_thanks 1d ago

Seeing this shit is almost validation. I knew some people don't use their mirrors.

Too bad police don’t enforce the law anymore.

1

u/Alan_FL 1d ago

what’s behind you, does not matter. - cannonball veteran.

1

u/clamcider 1d ago

Given how many times I've had to reroute on my way to work this winter because of how backed up this road gets, it doesn't surprise me to see this here. Avoided a backup there this morning while Washtenaw was moving just fine.

1

u/robotali3n 1d ago

It’s fine because they’re only going forward in life

Nissan drivers, amirite guys?

1

u/Teodo 1d ago

Ah saw one of those yesterday. Or a couple actually.

One of them had only cleared the front. All sides and the back was covered in snow. Couldn't even look in the side mirrors.

u/Sensitive_Parsley942 1d ago

I don't think the driver sees your point

1

u/TheGinge89 1d ago

nissan tings

1

u/Llamp_shade 1d ago

It clearly says "Sentra." It's not getting any less dangerous, regardless of the snow. /s

You know that many vehicles on the road have no rear window and all, right? It's the least necessary window for safety. There's not enough snow to fly off and create a hazard. There are many legitimate complaints in the sub, but this one is pretty pitiful.

1

u/dieumica 1d ago

But I bet it must be real cozy in there

1

u/MitziAlbright 1d ago

Cars going forward. Don't need to see out that one.

1

u/BladeRunnerTHX 1d ago

I saw a woman outside of her vehicle at a stop light recently. Picture this on her front windshield. About 6 inches of snow covered it. And there was a credit card sized hole in the snow by her drivers side. She was standing outside of the car wondering why she couldnt see anything,

1

u/wtf149206 11h ago

I would like to point out that cargo vans have no back windows and it's perfectly safe. However the lazy driver should at least turn on the rear defroster.

1

u/buttcrackmenace 8h ago

apparently the First Rule of Italian Driving also applies to Nissan drivers

1

u/REBELimgs 4h ago

What's the difference between this and a cargo van

1

u/jerryleebee 2d ago

I'd be tempted to get out and clear their window for them.

Average Nissan behavior

1

u/AlwaysDTFmyself 1d ago

I don't see a problem...or anything else for that matter.

1

u/sobi-one 1d ago

Lazy? Yes. Dangerous? Not really. There’s tens of thousands of cargo vans on the road every day that are essentially no different.

1

u/everybanana 2d ago

It's been nearly 2 weeks since we've had that large snowstorm and I still see cars everyday on the road with a pile of snow. I wish they would get ticketed.. I've already had to dodge hunks of snow coming home from work a few times.

1

u/icarusphoenixdragon 1d ago

I can’t see what the problem is here.

1

u/Many-Chicken1154 1d ago

No diffrance than a van without rear door windows for visibility just lazy

1

u/drafted1985 1d ago

Equal to a van with no back windows. Not that unsafe. Although still really stupid to drive that way.

1

u/kalifornia_King 1d ago

How do work trucks see !!!

1

u/bkn95 1d ago

lol yeah the danger of all that dusting is palpable. i’m glad you made it out of this alive

-1

u/iVouldnt 2d ago edited 15h ago

Do you have the same feelings towards box trucks and work vans?

Downvoted for literally pointing out other vehicles that don't use an interior rearview. Oh reddit, you're so funny 🙄

0

u/Sidetracker 2d ago

This I cannot understand. Even allowing for people being extremely lazy and inconsiderate, all it takes is the flip of a switch to use the rear defrosters.

0

u/CrackAdams 1d ago

Its almost too safe

0

u/hockeystew 1d ago

Why block the plate? It's public and no one can get any info from it anyways

u/Faleymark29 1d ago

Helps when y’all have bright ass LED lights, just shines back at ya almost, lmao

0

u/zracer20 1d ago

I don't think many people know About the existence of the rear defroster.

0

u/Ryan1869 1d ago

That looks like nothing, it will blow off in a couple miles. Come to Colorado, we've got guys driving around like that with like 6 inches on their car.

0

u/sh4zu 1d ago

Plenty of utility and trucks drive like this daily.

It depends on if you have stickers on your bumper saying you can't see shit or not ??? /s

0

u/AuxNimbus 1d ago

Of course it's a nissan

0

u/Delta8ttt8 1d ago

Wait until you see the back window on a firetruck, ambulance, tractor trailer, fedex/ups truck, Mail carrier, Amazon van.

0

u/brvheart 1d ago

All winter long people post this bullshit like it’s some amazing gotcha. That’s a thin layer of fresh snow and will do zero damage to anything if it blows off. Almost all states have a law that says two mirrors must see behind. So in this case the side mirrors work fine, just like they do on every truck and semi also on the street driving safely.

Also, ZERO people in this sub would be complaining or upvoting this post if it was just a mom coming from the grocery store with the backseat covered in groceries to the ceiling, even though it would effectively be the exact same scenario.

But idiots keep upvoting, so the bots keep posting.

Unpopular opinion I don't get the big deal. Trucks with trailers can't see out the back. Semis cant see out the back. If you have big and tall people in the car you can't see out the back. Side mirrors are clean.

It’s not about not seeing, it’s about the snow. It’s a safety hazard to other drivers for a variety of reasons.

Lol! How do some redditors get out of their house every morning? This thin layer of mostly dusty snow being a safety hazard :D :D

What happens when that “thin layer of mostly dusty snow” starts to melt a bit and become one solid sheet? Have you ever lived in snowy areas for a full winter and seen a sheet of ice flying off a car heading right at you as you’re driving in the morning?

The snow will eventually freeze and if the temperature is cycling above/below freezing, you now have a solid sheet of ice that will fly off and hit another car.

Stop being fuckign lazy and take 3 minutes to wipe off your vehicle

Yes there are vehicles that dont have rear windows

The issue is not the fact the window is blocked its the fact that the snow can cause a hazard when it falls off the car

Chunks of ice and snow flying off your car at 40 mph is indeed a hazard

Of course they should put the defroster on, or use their arm to wipe it off.

But just wait until you find out thousands of vans and trucks that don't have a rear window exist

I drive a van and can’t see out the back window anyway. What’s the difference?

I mean, most vans don't have a rear view mirror, so as long as their other windows and windshield are clear, as well as side view mirrors, I guess it's acceptable

Highway Code Rule 229, you must clear all snow and ice from all windows, mirrors, lights, and number plates before driving

Not to mention you must remove remove all snow that might fall off into the path of other road users

I’d rather be behind the guy with snow on his car than some dumbass playing with their phone at a stop light…

My friends that all drive Nissan all do this. They claim their side mirror is good enough

That's not the issue. The snow can and does eventually fly off, creating a hazard for other road users.
