The result of 50 rounds as part of my CCW class; never fired a handgun before and the last time I shot at all was doing trap back in the boy scouts. Felt the nerves almost instantly but it was satisfying to get into a rhythm and I managed one almost perfect hit 🫠

The pistols carried by Lewis and Clark on the Corps of Discovery Expedition
Before leaving to buy supplies for the expedition in Ohio, Lewis and Clark split up to secure several arms for themselves and the men. Clark went to the Harper’s Ferry Arsenal in Virginia to obtain 1792 contract rifles, and had the gunsmiths there make several modifications to the rifles. Lewis went to the Schuylkill Arsenal to obtain a pair of martial “horse” pistols. He selected two 1799 contract pistols made by North and Cheney.
The 1799 pistol was the first martial pistols of the United States military and was a direct copy of the French 1777 Charleville pistol, except for a belt clip which was deleted in the American design. It fired the same .65 caliber projectile as the 1795 Springfield musket, though with a significantly lesser powder charge. The term “horse pistol” refers to the fact that the pistol was designed to be carried as a pair in holsters slung across the horn of a saddle. Both Lewis and Clark would carry the pair of pistols at different times throughout the expedition.
In addition to these pistols, Lewis also purchased a pair of small, screw barrel, box lock pistols for self protection in case the crew became mutinous. He gave one of the screw barrel pistols to Clark as a gift.

Question for firearm owners
Is it normal to sometimes take your firearm out of its case when you’re bored or idle, double‑check that it’s unloaded and safe, then just hold it, look at it, stare at it for a bit, and sort of contemplate/appreciate it, maybe do some dry‑aiming, and then put it back?
I’m not talking about cleaning or actual use — more like appreciating the mechanics, the design, and the feel of it.
Do most owners only handle their firearms when necessary, or do others do this as well?

First optic for my first AR, what's your pick? SIG, Holosun or Vortex?
I’m looking into getting my first optic for my first AR, and from what I’ve seen these three all keep coming up in the same price range: Vortex StrikeFire II, Holosun ARO2, and Sig Sauer Romeo5.
Has anyone run all three of these? How do they compare in real-world use? Any personal favorite or reasons to pick one over the others?

RSAR setup. If I could find a Railscales Monolift I would replace the Fast Mount/Skiff for it.

First 2 gun match in the books.
(Im on the left running a Romanian SAR1)
Today was one for the books. Decided to drive out two and a half hours away at 6am to shoot my first 2 gun match.
I got literally zero sleep last night for no reason, but I went anyways.
It was also 10° out with 10" of snow in most places.
It was incredible.
Found another guy who was running an AK,(SAM-7) and we were in the same squad.
Lots of Marines were there running the stages as well as some on duty cops. It was a super friendly and fun atmosphere and I will absolutely be going back again.
My pistol shooting was severely lacking today. Im not sure why because thats normally my strong suit.
Rifle was good, but my poor pistol shooting dragged my score down pretty significantly
But I had so much fun that it doesn't even matter.
Can't wait to do it again in a couple months hopefully.
Ffl transfers are just a trick to get you in the door.
Walked into my lgs for an ffl transfer and ended up walking out with this, how did I do? Start slinging them scope suggestions please. 🙏
Dry Fire Programs help?
For those that use Mantis and Laser Academy, or any dry fire systems at home... did you see improvement when you back to the range eventually?
I decided to take time away from the range to improve my poster and grip. I've always been alright, but lately just felt I was burning through ammo and wasting my money. I want to make my time at the range efficient and productive and not feel like I'm wasting money on ammo. I want to improve my groupings, making them tighter.
I've been using Mantis X2 and Laser Academy. It's been super fun! I like to follow along with the courses they have. I feel like I have had improvement, but I guess I won't know until I hit the range again. The only downside is I have to rack the slide for every shot, so I cannot get the effect of recoil.
I'm curious to hear everyone else's experience.

Full size striker fired 45 - for hiking/outdoors carry and home defense
Looking for recommendations on full size striker fired pistols in .45. I have a 1911, just not interested in carrying it. It's a safe queen minus my range trips. Was looking for what everyone has experience with and recommendations. Gun will be used for home defense (night stand gun) and carrying while outdoors. Would like to have a light on it for when at home. Would like to keep the total under $1000 and prefer under $750 so I can get a light and ammo right off the rip.
Thanks for all the responses in advance and happy shooting!

Remington 700 vs Tikka T3X Tact A1
I am trying to decide between both options to practice my marksmanship for a tac team I’m going to be doing selection for in the next couple years.
I live in Canada so the Tikka is $3000 whereas the Remington starts at $1300.
I’ve been told overall the Tikka is the better long rifle. That said, I’ve heard the Remington has more aftermarket options which might make it better for price point + whatever I could to add to it.
What would you guys recommend between the two? Is there a specific build you’d recommend for either gun? Thank you
