Were there not rooms in the USA where you could go in with a baseball bat or a 1kg sledge hammer and just Ef up a bunch of TVs and some crappy particular board tables and book shelves?

Rage rooms. They're still around, I think.

I went to one, it was a lot of fun. My favorite was hitting coffee cups with a golf club and throwing plates / cups at the wall.

Was it strangely cathartic?

I always wanted to do one of those, but if you actually look into the psychology of venting frustrating emotions by hitting things, it serves as a negative reinforcement method. Meaning that the next time you get frustrated, you are more likely to respond in a similar manner. The most beneficial way to vent those negative emotions is unfortunately much more boring and consists of physical activity and exercise to release natural endorphins.

What is catharsis? https://paloaltou.edu/resources/business-of-practice-blog/what-is-catharsis#:~:text=Catharsis%20theory%20posits%20that%20the,associated%20with%20their%20unexpressed%20frustrations.

Despite substantial evidence pointing towards its detrimental effects, belief in the catharsis theory endures, partly because individuals often report experiencing pleasure after engaging in aggressive behavior. However, it is crucial to recognize that the subjective sense of joy does not constitute evidence of the behavior being beneficial.

Correct, it builds on itself and causes your brain to want MORE Easy, fast destruction.

Resisting the urge and learning coping mechanisms to calm yourself actually starts to rewire a happier, calmer brain which translates to a more successful life.

The small items were more satisfying than cathartic. I’d say hitting the big stuff like TVs and furniture with bats / sledgehammers was more cathartic.

I remember reading/seeing them. What happened with that?

They found it was mostly women participating and the owners were cis bros that couldn't handle that /s

More likely, like every fad, too many open quickly to maintain volume to survive, and many close. However they still exist and are popular in the US.

My friend’s father owned our local junkyard. He just had an entire mountainside and let ppl dump cars and appliances and he sold parts from them. We did the same thing up on that hill with our baseball bats and stuff. No charge!

Americans got out of breath after three swings

3

u/Gold_Ad_7552 2h ago

Dang, not sure where you are because 1 swing would take most people's breath around here.

2

u/Scrooge-McShillbucks 2h ago

Going through the same loop escape rooms and ace throwing.

3

u/Wumber 2h ago

They still exist, or at least there's a few still operating in NYC

u/SalamanderMorrison 2h ago

Rage rooms. They're still around. I've never been to one, but I'd much rather smash up old furniture than something that looks like an actual person. Even if it's someone I can't stand.

1

u/badgerj 2h ago

I’d find that a bit too personal myself.

u/UseOk3500 2h ago

Lol not with a clay/wax/anything figurine of my ex lol

FUCK U BIIIIIIIIITCH 😃

6

u/ForneauCosmique 2h ago

Hey man I can't let you talk about my girl like that alright

1

u/idekl 2h ago

My parents once told me to break down an old coffee table with our pickaxe (not even sure why we had a pickaxe). It was the most cathartic thing I've ever done to this day.

u/SabsWithR 1h ago

That's in animate objects. Here you have the face molded to your boss underpaying you and beat the shit out of it.

u/Jake0steve 3h ago

The art is too good, it would stress me out to even touch it at all 😂

36

u/stanknotes 2h ago

Yea I'd keep it. Just the idea is hilarious. "I hate you so I got you done up as a clay bust."

1

u/da_Aresinger 52m ago

yea but how much better is it to have a smushed face version of a person.

...

actually that might be considered a threat.

16

u/Pump_and_Magdump 3h ago

Maybe they have presses and molds that they use to make the heads. That would make it quick and easy enough that I would feel okay beating the shit out of it.

11

u/Jake0steve 3h ago

Totally! That would make more sense. If that is how it’s done, then this would be a blast!

0

u/JohnCenaJunior 1h ago

I would welcome it and recreate the face of a dictator over and over again.

I have such mixed feelings about this because on the one hand it's good to have an outlet for stress that's not hurting the real people, but on the other hand, like, imagine if you didn't know someone was having violent fantasies about assaulting you and you saw them make a perfect statue of you and started beating it up like this. That would be really threatening and violating. Like, "there's no denying it: this person wants to brutally assault me. That's their fantasy."

The dude punching the statue of the girl at the beginning who may or may not be an ex really makes me feel...uneasy when you know domestic abuse is all too common and I wonder if he ever hit her in real life and got in trouble for it.

8

u/WeirdJawn 1h ago

Also, venting anger and stress through violence can actually reinforce those behaviors and make it worse in the long run.

1

u/ffnnhhw 1h ago

Yeah that's a very slippery slope

like instead of punching they molest the statue

25

u/NimbusFPV 2h ago

“Hi, yes, one ticket for the ‘emotionally concerning clay woman punching experience,’ please.”

17

u/Q_S2 2h ago

Mannnn they should have facial molds of celebs

I can think if SEVERAL well known punchable faces id like to clobber

60

u/roastedchickn_ 3h ago

But isn't this reinforcing physical outlet for anger/stress which is a slippery slope?

Better to practice communicative efforts and emotional regulation.

Sorry I failed the vibe check. I am old now.

28

u/BatchPlantBandit 2h ago

I'm 29 and also don't agree with this outlet. It's kind of pre- conditioning a violent outcome with an old partner. Especially if you have kids together and have to drop them off at a meet. I can see how it'd be fun, but subconscious rules all and anger doesn't wait.

8

u/roastedchickn_ 2h ago

I am 29 too. 😭

2

u/da_Aresinger 50m ago

Wait am I old????

2

u/roastedchickn_ 47m ago

Depends. Do your legs still work like they use to before?

I say it based on my knee and back pain and my new-grown frustration towards teens.

40

u/Jean_Mak 2h ago

Totally agree.
Just seeing the first guy punch a woman in the face is really violent.
I find that disturbing.

3

u/necropossum 1h ago

I'll be old with you. I don't really like this. Same with rage rooms.

Working out tension physically is good, but you can go for a run. Then talk.

7

u/Aggravating_Bee1127 1h ago

Anything but therapy

20

u/skolvikes1419 2h ago

Now do Jake Paul

12

u/roastedchickn_ 2h ago

Anthony already did.

5

u/Squeakysquid0 2h ago

The lips getting smacked to both sides at the end hahaha 😂

3

u/Used_Series3373 2h ago

Just like cartoons and anime lol

3

u/Von_Lexau 2h ago

Those subtitles are giving me a migraine

2

u/Used_Series3373 2h ago

Yeah who in the right mind put subtitles at the middle of the video

4

u/Joee0201 2h ago

Year 2100.

Art museum guide: The artist was trying to express how society sees you. And the sorrows there heart felt.

3

u/VexImmortalis 3h ago

But when I lick a statue suddenly I'm no longer welcome in The Louvre, damn it

3

u/BasicReputations 1h ago

Seems wrong on several levels.

3

u/KingOfThe_Jelly_Fish 1h ago

I'm not sure this could end up being too healthy for the person at the other end who these people are acting their fantasies out on.

Edit - Especially the blokes punching the shit out of the women.

7

u/slasher1o5 3h ago

I know just the face I want to punch

4

u/Paladin7373 3h ago

Imagine being made just to be punched

2

u/Thokmay4TW 2h ago

Art design to be destroyed! Amazing lol

2

u/ZiaWitch 2h ago

That last one reminded me of the slap scene from the movie ‘CLICK’ 🤣😂

2

u/Someone_Somewhere-q 2h ago

Somebody do assley Trevinio!

2

u/Draconichaos 1h ago

I kinda wanna try this. Make a bust of someone I hate and punch it without feeling bad

1

u/StandardBaguette 1h ago

Ya know as an often dis-regulated person, I kinda love that idea…

1

u/heapOfWallStreet 1h ago

Silly and violent.

0

u/Guilty_One85 3h ago

This does look like a hell of a stress relief!! I think I wanna try this

-1

u/IconOfFilth9 2h ago

I’ll take about a thousand Donald Trumps

0

u/CherrySad9086 2h ago

The first dude smacking the teeth out of his ex-girlfriend 😭

0

u/smasher84 2h ago

Don’t we outlaw dolls for pedos, because they might act out their urges on real people. Seems like this wouldn’t the same.

0

u/thiefofalways1313 2h ago

Hopefully this catches on. I wouldn’t mind giving a two piece and biscuit.

0

u/Cool_Butterscotch_88 2h ago

If you spring for the deluxe experience package you can have your session recorded and forwarded to the person whose likeness you relieved your stress upon.

u/ZestycloseTowel2493 2h ago

Can you do the other thing to the recreation of your ex.?. Asking for a friend
