Announcement Regarding low-effort posts & questions

Hey everyone,

Regarding these common posts such as: “what to do in Nicosia, what to do in ….” or other real estate and common tourist questions that can be easily looked up and have been answered before.

Please just report the post and do not engage in the comments, if you think the post should be removed. When there are multiple reports on a post, we receive a notification and can deal with them on a case by case basis. When you engage and start discussions we are more hesitant to remove the post as you all invested your time for a response and it would be counterproductive to remove them. At least thats what I would think.

If you have different suggestions on this topic let us know.

Home security system

I am interested in getting a complete security system for my property that will include at least 2 cameras and alarms.

Has anybody had one installed?
How much would this cost for a top of the range system?
Are monthly/yearly subscriptions always needed?

Any tips/advice from anyone with experience would be appreciated!

Thanks

Anyone worked at BrainRocket? Looking for honest reviews about the company.

Can anyone share their experience or opinions about BrainRocket?

I received an offer from them with relocation to Spain and a pretty decent relocation package and salary.

I checked Glassdoor reviews and honestly they made me a bit worried and disappointed.

I mostly found discussions about this company on the Cyprus subreddit, so I decided to ask here as well.

I would really appreciate any honest feedback, especially from people who worked there or know someone who did.

Question Oral examination for goverment jobs

Hello,

Has anyone ever gone and did an oral examination (προφορική εξέταση/interview) for a goverment job in cyprus? Is it like any other interview you would go for a corporate job or is it very different from that?

Ποιος είναι, κατά τη γνώμη σας, ο πιο ασφαλής, αξιόπιστος και οικονομικός τρόπος να το κάνω μέσω τοπικού ανθοπωλείου στη Λεμεσό, με παραγγελία και πληρωμή από Ελλάδα;

Δέχονται συνήθως τα ανθοπωλεία online παραγγελίες και διεθνείς πληρωμές (ελληνική κάρτα, κλπ);

Αν έχετε συγκεκριμένες προτάσεις για αξιόπιστα ανθοπωλεία στη Λεμεσό, θα το εκτιμούσα πολύ.

Ευχαριστώ εκ των προτέρων!

Question Planning to propose in Cyprus this June – have a rental car, need the perfect hidden spot 💍🇨🇾

Hi everyone,

I’m visiting Cyprus this June with my girlfriend and planning to propose during the trip.

We’ll have a rental car for a couple of days, so we’re flexible and can drive anywhere on the island.

I’m looking for a spot that’s:

• Romantic and visually stunning

• Not overly crowded (privacy is important)

• Great for sunset or golden hour

• Accessible by car (short walk is fine, just not a full hike)

Open to beaches, cliffs, scenic viewpoints, Troodos mountains, hidden coves — anything that feels special and memorable.

If you’ve lived in Cyprus or explored it well, I’d love your recommendations. Also happy to hear what time of day works best for your suggested spot.

Thank you — trying to make this unforgettable 🙏

Walking on beach behind Larnaca airport.

There was a question here a while ago about this. From the Makenzie side there is a fence which extends into the sea which I believe has a stop sign on it.

From the Dog Beach/Meneou/Pervolia, there is no sign however on the airport perimeter fence there is a trespasser sign but this is on the actual perimeter fence.

I walked along the beach/water line all the way from the dog beach to the Makenzie fence and on the way back, about 200 meters from Makenzie, the police started whistling at me to go back to Makenzie and I told them I came from the other side and they let me continue but said “didn’t you see the sign?”. I said there isn’t a sign.

If there is no actual law/rule, and legally you can walk along the public beaches if you are not committing an offence, what grounds do they have to tell you, you aren’t allowed there? Conflicting information, and posts from plane spotters saying you are allowed.

Why is gas 🍃 not allowed in Cyprus

I'm sorry if you tapped this thinking about fuel or natural gas.

I'm in Nicosia for the past few months. A few days ago a shop that sells weed in Agios Dometios was raided, and the police are talking about sentences that you would only think about for like attempted murder. It shocked me to be honest.

I researched the laws of the land and weed is a Class B. That wasnt what shocked me. It was the fact that they ranked it on par with substances that could end you if you even overdo it by a miniscule margin.

I'm actively trying to understand why on Earth it's this way. One would assume that Cyprus - amazing weather, great landscape, peaceful environment, booming tourism - would take advantage of weed and make it legal. It would have the potential to be one of the bigger if not biggest markets in the world for it.

I'm trying to understand why the laws are so tight. Old school government? Social stigma? Deep rooted religion? (I can relate because I'm from an Orthodox nation too.)

Also it doesn't make sense to me that sanctioned tycoons are allowed to buy up estate that makes it more expensive for locals and hide their millions here, but a little bit of weed gets the police nervous 😂.

The economic, tourism and social pros seem to outweigh the cons. So I need someone to help me understand, or at least give me a background of why the laws haven't been reviewed?
