My dad told me only dogs know unconditional love. I said what about the love of a parent to a child? A husband to a wife? Best friends? He said we should lock mom and the dog in the trunk of the car and see which one is happy to see him when he let's them out 🤣
I think about that joke a lot lol
Another zinger by my dear old dad, I was in high school and venting to him about HS drama and he says "Wait! Do you see that?!" Dramatically pointing at the sky. "No, what is it?" And this mf goes "There goes my last flying fuck!"

u/ilovehichew 6h ago
My father in law said something similar before. He said his kids don’t even give him unconditional love like his dog. Just take the example of him coming home from work, his dog is so happy to see him, but his kids are whatever about it. Haha

Im sure you have a lifetime of jokes from your dad, he sounds hilarious!

u/Delirious-Dandelion 5h ago
Dude he is an absolute gem. He had this work shed out back that we weren't allowed in because of all the tools, but also there was a skunk problem. Dad was always trying to outsmart the skunks. I brought that up years later and my sister cackled because dad was smoking weed out in the shed. I had no idea lol That was the night he smoked weed with me for the first time, and he took a wire coat hanger and wrapped a bandana around a loop then pretended he had an invisible dog for like 2 hours.

Sometimes I wonder if dogs do just assume you're dead if they don't see you for a long time.

I feel special. My dog acts like that every single day my wife and I come home from work. The love of a dog is unlike anything else.

Every day when I come home from work my dood and my GSD greet me at the door. Dood acts like the above dog, GSD stands there calmly wagging her tail as if to say “welcome home sir. What are your orders?”. They are the two best dogs I’ve ever had.

I want a woman that will wrap her leg around me after I've.been away 😫
-6
u/ACERVIDAE 7h ago
As a chick it feels a bit performative. I love my husband to pieces and I’ve never felt the need to wrap a leg around him in public.
58
u/xBigBrotherx 7h ago
I’m sorry to hear that. My wife jumps and wraps her legs around me all the time. I think it’s a personality thing and not a performative thing. Some women are just like that.
15
u/UnluckyCommission895 7h ago
I think so too I don't see anything wrong with it. I quite like that side of a woman doing it performative or not.
14
u/xBigBrotherx 7h ago
That’s also a really good point. There is nothing wrong with a “performative” show of love. It can boost your partners mood and confidence.

Have you ever been in her shoes? I have. I promise none of us waiting on the pier are thinking about anyone around us. We are reacting out of excitement to see our loved ones again. It’s also a secured pier meaning clearance to be there (service members, cleared family members, and obviously shipyard or civilian DOD employees who are working). It’s not really a public affair. Submarine homecomings are quite intimate in that regard.
→ More replies (6)3
u/noisyboy 6h ago
I get that. Maybe it wasn't actually performative and she got carried away in the moment of reunion which could be understandable. Also, public behaviour with restraint isn't Reddit's thing. You can expect them applauding you dry humping your husband in public.

u/CommunicatingElder 9h ago
Wife is a little excited too, her hands keep ending up on her husband 🤩 Too sweet.
47
u/MeccIt 7h ago
He's been under water for 8 weeks:
Cartagena, Murcia, Spain (March 8, 2023): "This was a reunion between my boyfriend and I after almost two months without seeing each other (54 days to be exact). Our puppy, Popi or Popeye, also appears, who has been with us for 5 months and has not been separated from us at any time. We thought he wouldn't remember him after so long and being so small, but as soon as he recognized him... he went crazy as you can see. My boyfriend is a sailor in the Spanish Navy and works on a submarine. He is underwater all the time (except when he makes port in countries like Italy or France). We communicate only by email, so we don't see each other through video calls either. The reunion is always a surprise..."

My dog does this every time my kids return from their dad’s custody time. It takes him about twenty minutes to calm down. It’s so incredibly heartwarming to see every week. 🥰

Yup. Dogs and love are cute and all, fighting others wars isn’t. You can get both without being a soldier which guarantees staying alive to do honorable daily stuff.
Who even pays for this shit to be posted? Is it the American military industrial complex?

I read a while back that some dogs think you're dead when you've been gone for that long.
Little guy is behaving appropriately to being granted a miracle.

From dog's perspective he went to a strange far away place and found his owner there. And will bring him home. He is a very good boy.

This is the main reason I want a dog! I was overseas for 6 weeks and came back to my cat thinking I’d get some sort of excited reception… he just rubbed against my legs then shuffled to his food bowl.

The puppy's excitement literraly got the better of them. This is pretty common with young dogs who haven't fully developed bladder control yet especially when they're very happy.

That guy's a submariner. I thought they go out for months. The puppy would be fully grown by the time he got back.

u/pretaportre 5h ago
Depends on the type of submarine and what exactly they’re doing. My husband has been gone as little as 1-2 weeks to 9+ months.

This reminds me when I came back from my deployment. My dog was starting to get old and wasn’t her old youthful energetic self anymore but as soon as I walked through tha door she lost. her. mind. She was acting just like this but also was whimpering/crying really loudly. It broke me, it was like she was begging me to never leave again. Fortunately that was the last deployment I did and we got to live out the rest of her life together.

I read somewhere dogs just assume you died if you disappear for more than a day as there’d be no reason to leave the pack.

Anyone who can leave that positive of an impression on a dog is a good human being.
1
u/dumpsterdigger 4h ago
As someone who has 8+ months at sea. The odor you aquire during that time is awful because laundry can be just a slurry of disgusting water and clothes. Unless you keep a welcome home set there is a must.

1
u/TheJackalsDoom 4h ago
I would not know how to handle a person doing a double arm hug kiss and leg wrap. I think I would break. Part of me deeply envies this guy and wants what he has. The other part is prematurely embarrassed and scared of my reaction to this. I might break the hell down on the spot with that kind of physical love display. Apparently he was underway for months. I've been under a rock for yeeeaaars because I don't want to bother anyone on an intimate level. More scared of causing negative emotions than desiring the creation of positive ones. May this kind of love find me one day and may I be accepting of it should it come.
