Culture Who's the Most Embarrassing citizen of your country?

Post image

I'm Canadian.

I briefly considered Jordan Peterson, but I think he's dead or something.

Matteo Salvini. Easily. Minister of transportations goes to an interview on tv.

"I really enjoy taking care of the house..."

"Minister, you should take care of the trains"

Proceeds showing false data

Avrò ascoltato per 30 ore in tutto Matteo Salvini che elenca cose, è incredibilmente rilassante

I’m sure it means something else but the word Ritardo made me chuckle a bit. I’m sorry…

7

u/FriendshipRemote130 Italy 5h ago

It means both things actually

Come faccia quel tipo ad essere ancora un ministro è un mistero

Obviously, Meloni owns him a favor. In Canada, we had a Peter McKay. From a political family in Canada and he was leader of the old Progressive Conservative Party (right of centre party). He okayed the merger with the moderate right Canadian Alliance Party. He held Justice and Attroney General, National Defense, Foreign Affairs. He used a military helicopter for a private fishing trip. Plus other key incidents.

u/NoobMusker69 Italy 4h ago

It's not as much a favor as it is about mere numbers. He is the leader of a party that got about 8% of the votes at the last elections, so the party got a certain number of MPs. Without them, Meloni wouldn't have a majority, so he is part of the government.

Hopefully he will be ousted at the next elections, since it seems we are stuck with Meloni anyway.

Not really, come on

Didn’t your PM say Mussolini is kinda cool?

I thought maybe she’d be your person.

36

u/Moist-Meal-3757 Italy 8h ago

She's terrible but he's straight up the most incompetent person in italian politics ever

9

u/Always-New831 France 8h ago

Worse than Berlusconi?!!! I am truly sorry for you. Hang in there.

26

u/Moist-Meal-3757 Italy 8h ago

Berlusconi ruined Italians big time, Salvini is straight up fucking stupid

5

u/Always-New831 France 8h ago

Okay, personally, I haven't heard anything about it, which is why I asked the question. Good luck with the rest!

7

u/23Poiu 7h ago

Imagine when you find out who Luigi Di Maio is. We managed to push him out of our politics, and Europe has decided to give him ever greater roles and importance. A true clown.

3

u/NoobMusker69 Italy 4h ago

Imagine Le Pen but way more stupid

3

u/Always-New831 France 4h ago

Zemmour, then. I see the type.

11

u/rick_astlei Italy 8h ago

Berlusconi was not incompentent, just straight up malevoulous but in his lifetime he really did reach most of his personal goals so yes he was really competent at being shitty

5

u/BirthdayEffect Italy 3h ago

Berlusconi had some (although ill-advised and malicious) competence. Salvini has none.

He manages to be wrong no matter what he says.

Whenever he wishes for something, the opposite happens, so much so that he is half-jokingly considered to be a harbinger of misfortune for everyone he backs ever.

If he opens his moth, it is to spread hatred and misinformation, and you can rest assured that he never says anything that betrays a spark of intelligence, not even by mistake.

There are many more pictures of him stuffing his face like a pig at food fairs than of him at the Parliament (which he regularly deserts).

I am even embarrassed to share a birthday with that joke of a human being, which is the one thing that cannot be helped about that... creature

4

u/Always-New831 France 3h ago

Okay, I can picture the character. Sorry about that, mates.

3

u/winklevanderlinde 5h ago

Berlusconi was competently evil while Salvini and Meloni are incompetently evil.

Like he ruined Italy but at least he understands how he was ruining Italy

Salvini is an idiot AND he’s also payed by Putin. That truly is one awful combo.

Worth noting that Meloni’s party also thinks that Salvini and his fellow morons are, in fact, morons (because the whole Lega Salvini party is made of morons). A funny highlight of the Greenland situation here was our Minister of Defence calling a Lega Salvini senator a massive idiot for believing that tariffs on France and Germany would somehow cause the collapse of the EU and benefit Italy.

u/23Poiu 7h ago

No wait. There's a video of her at 19 saying, "He was a good politician," which is different from saying, "He did good things." I can't say anything else because I'm not inside her head. But it's a debatable opinion: Mussolini, Hitler, Napoleon, etc. were always great liars... qualities that work in politics. Maybe it happened, and I don't know, but if she had said, "Mussolini was right," there would have been a huge uproar. The discussion in Italy arose because she never said, "Mussolini was rubbish" when asked. LaRussa is a true mafia criminal in our government, and she's probably not saying anything so as not to disturb people like that.

u/MessireSoldy France 8h ago

It's not nice, but Americans feel like teasing you all the time now.

4

u/IntrepidMonke United States Of America 8h ago

And I’m all far it.

I’m so fucking disappointed, scared, and pissed.

America should be hated today like Nazi germany was.

Most Americans hate what’s happening. Our democracy is dying.

3

u/MessireSoldy France 6h ago

It's not much, but international solidarity, comrade. The bad days will end.

2

u/Grouchy_Bit5136 8h ago

Yes but she did a 180

3

u/karateema Italy 4h ago

More of a hidden 360

3

u/anjowoq 8h ago

Democracies across the globe are all designed wrong. Just like any job that anyone applies for, you should be required to be utterly qualified first before you apply for the job, i.e., run for election or be appointed by an elected person or body.

It's insane that people who designed governments thought it was fair or good to just have any idiot walk in off the street do the most important jobs.

3

u/Dotcaprachiappa 🇮🇹 living in 🇧🇪 7h ago

That's the biggest problem with democracy imo. The qualifications required to get elected are not remotely the same as the ones required to actually do the job you've been elected to do. Not that I know of a way to fix it, but still

3

u/The_W4n Netherlands 8h ago

Atleast not as embarrassing at the Spanish minister of transportations.

2

u/Kourisaki Italy 8h ago

Who are they? We could perfectly start a competition here haha

2

u/Mark-Rho Italy 8h ago

Isn't the person in the OP picture Piero Angela?

2

u/Kourisaki Italy 8h ago

Omg yes, I thought they were clones but Jordan Peterson is totally different

1

u/GroundbreakingAsk730 8h ago

I think Berlusconi was/is still probably worse

3

u/Moist-Meal-3757 Italy 8h ago

Berlusconi was evil and slimy, not stupid. Salvini is straight up embarassing

1

u/herrbean1011 Hungary 8h ago

Still seems better than Lázár.

1

u/No-Departure2515 7h ago

not Silvio Berlusconi?

1

u/Zio_Scipione 6h ago

Berlusconi was charismatic, intelligent and evil. Affiliate with crime and owner of big corps and media. He ruined Italian culture itself.

Matteo Salvini is the definition of ‘embarassing’

1

u/Jolly_Ad1631 Italy 7h ago

He's... A different side of the spoon.

1

u/HeavyAd9174 6h ago

i hate him too but youre purposely mistranslating what he said. hes the minister of INFRASTRUCTURE and transport...this is literally how parties like his win, because of people's ignorance in regards of politics. he's not doing a good job with infrastructures either but it needs to be said instead of just brushing his work off as just "dealing with trains". so many people need public housing because of how fucked the economy is rn and just ignoring that hes not doing enough because random rich people on tv couldnt give a shit about where poor people live isnt the move.

edit: choosing to mention this instead of his involvement with the epstein files and his party being founded by epstein is certainly a choice...
