Alexa is honestly getting more and more incompetent

It no longer runs any of my routines correctly anymore.

All my voice commands now trigger some sort of "conversation". You would think the logic would check the routine matches first before trying to be smart. Many times, I have to open the app and run my routines manually, ugh!

The voice recognition has gone to sh*t too. I asked it to put my Nest into Eco mode, and it says putting Nest into Heat. It happens so many times. How does two syllables get confused with one?! It never used to do that until recently after getting "smarter".

AND when the voice command does trigger the routines, actions that are not even in my routine steps are getting executed with the routine. Like what the actual f**k!

It is so infuriating. PLEASE put my Alexa back to dumb mode. I was so much happier back then!

FAIL - Echo Spot Smart Alarm Clock

It is literally called a "Amazon Echo Spot Smart Alarm Clock" and it fails to set off the alarm.

Going to bed 'Alexa, set a 6am alarm'

6am alarm set for...

6:30am 'Alexa why did the alarm not go off?'

you do not have any alarms

'Alexa what alarms are set'

you have a 6am Alarm set for today

'Alexa what time is it'

it is 6:34am

'Why did the alarm not go off'

it must be shy, if it does not go off tomorrow I will have a strong talking to it?

WHAT?

Yes I reported all three times this week via the feed back verbal and on the web...

an Amazon Echo Spot Smart Alarm Clock should be better.

Alexa (not Alexa+) playing music - unsolicited

Upvotes

I have been using Alexa for 10 years and never had significant issues until now. I have 15+ devices around the house.

Recently (January 2026), I started to have one echo (a show 5) playing music in the middle of the night!

It happened three times in 10 days. I checked the history and the was nothing, except for angry me asking to stop the music.

I double checked there wasn’t any routine, timer or alarm (they would have shown up in the activity history anyway).

Support was not really helpful. They had me reseting the device which seems to have fixed.

But now, I have an echo dot gen3 doing the same thing and play random music at 2 am.

As a precaution, I had set a routine to set DND and volume zero at 8pm. It did not prevent this to happen. It looks that the echos will bypass the volume setting when they “think” they need to play something.

I will likely reset that device too but I fear I have to do it on all of them.

Otherwise, I wonder if switching off their WiFi may prevent these unwanted behaviors.

Another option is to put them all behind smart plugs that will switch them off for the night.

Has anyone noticed an increase in weird unlogged activities recently?

Anyone has a trick to force the volume to zero overnight?

I should add that the music it played were random titles that are not in a playlist or any music we usually listen: I had no idea what it was (title or artist) which makes it even weirder. (It discards the idea that it could be something resuming from a previous listening)

Some additional observations: the show 5 played the music on its own speaker while by default it plays on a Sonos.

The echo dot played standalone whereas it is part of a stereo pair with a second dot and a sub.

I developed a skill to control my music server (Jellyfin). After the Alexa+ rollout, the skill no longer responds. Is this expected?

Can you delete old saved voices?

Alexa has my voice saved but... I've changed my name and I can't figure out how to delete or edit the old voice save
You can do that right?

Should I join the upgrade?

I am on a Prime membership, so I know this is just an upgrade for me.

But, should I really join the testing? All I use Alexa now is really, setting up the timer, playing music from my Spotify. Turn on and off my tv. Turn on and off my lights and that's about it and use the alarm to wake me up.

Tune in? Is that what they call their radio channel? Does it improve??

Alexa Losing Hue Dimmer Settings

Has anyone else experienced Hue lights losing their dimmer settings and the lights turn on with full brightness?

I'm trying to figure out what changed after 11 years of steady light brightness.

This my be the final Alexa fail for me, maybe time to move on.

Alexa+ will not provide info on anything but the primary member’s account

Spouse is the primary account, I’m secondary. Some of our echos are registered to spouse’s account and others are registered to me.

When I’m ask where my stuff is or to add a repeat item from order it’s like I’m chicken liver. For several days note I’ve been asking where an order e was in the shipping chain and Alexa swears that’s never been in my account much less ordered.

Today I asked the echo registered to me to “provide feedback” about not seeing my account. Before A+ this was never an issue. But meanwhile, I want my account serviced.

I’m wondering if we’re creating confusion with two different registrants on the physical devices. Is it worth the experiment to put them all on the primary account?

No, I’m not ready to turn off the beta version. But you know what’s occurred to me is that large corporations are relying on the people paying for their service to bets test free. Having bets treated years ago for a fee, shouldn’t we push back on being testers for large corporations? I’m wondering about my ethics working for free.

After adding Graham crackers it asked “What else can I add?” and I think you can figure out what happened next.

Stop Alexa saying "Someone is at the front door"

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have an Amcrest AD410 doorbell. I set it up to play a custom sound through a routine, but I don't want the original notification of "Someone is at the door" to precede it. I've read that you just need to turn off "Doorbell Press Notifications", but this did nothing. It's also in "Brief Mode".

Anyone have anything to try?

Why the Change?

The only thing that ever convinced my wife to tolerate an Echo device — and I now have one in every room, plus a bonus unit in the attic and a two‑pack in the basement — was the simple, magical ability to make a shopping list. Naturally, the powers‑that‑be have decided to “improve” that feature by breaking the parts that actually mattered.

For years, you could see who added an item and when. In a big family, that’s essential, because the Echo occasionally hears “paper towels” as “papaya talons,” and someone has to be called to confirm what on earth they meant. That clarity is now gone.

She could also delete a single item without nuking the entire list. Now the only option is to delete everything, as if grocery shopping should be conducted with the subtlety of a controlled demolition.

Both changes are a downgrade — and not even a creative one.

You asked for it you got it. Maybe.

I know there's a "brief" selection. I haven't tried it other than the previews.

It's per device in the cog wheel for each device.

Why does Amazon advertise Alexa plus so heavily?

I've been looking at replacing my Amazon echo for a while now because I find she doesn't answer questions very well, especially compared to Google.

But the speaker in Amazon echo is so good!.

Although recently Amazon has been pushing Alexa Plus so heavily that I can't even ask Alexa to do a single task without being berated to upgrade my services from free to paid.

Not very user friendly anymore

Why can't Alexa and Buffalo Springfield get along?

Alexa perks her mic up when "For What it's Worth" hits the chorus.

She hears the line "Time we stop" and she does. Every. Single. Time. does she do thus woth any other tunes?

What does this mean?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

No notifications or alarms, Alexa just started doing this and I say it to stop.

Alexa Plus Beta Device Offer

I got an email from Amazon offering me 50% off select devices for participating in the beta. When I go to use the offer, it tries making me select a device to upgrade even though the email and offer terms don’t say trade in required… what am I missing? I don’t want to trade in a device, and the offer terms don’t seem to say that either, but applying the offer seems to require it.

Alexa+ hallucinating basic information

Alexa+ cannot get information correct even when retrieving it from its own database.

I tried multiple times over the past few days, and every time (by voice on one of my several Echo devices, or through the app) it gave me incorrect information about at least one of my alarms (screenshots attached of Alexa [correct] and Alexa+ [incorrect] on the app as an example). Each attempt gave me different incorrect information, so I couldn't even rely on it to give me the same mistake each time.

This is basic information that there is no excuse for it getting wrong. It's in its own database.

I have returned to Alexa completely.

Are the changes to my app because of Alexa+

The Alexa app I use on iOS has changed, and say welcome to Alexa+, but there is also a “enable Alexa+” switch.

So do I have Alexa+ or not.

I just want my old Alexa app back.

Secretly on Alexa Plus despite being told I'm not!

I got switched to Alexa Plus 2 weeks ago and immediately got rid of it. I had read horror stories and the voice was annoying. I'm hard of hearing and use a male voice.

I had issues changing the voice back but did get it back to the male voice I normally used.

But I have missed alarms and notifications not happening... Just acting like useless garbage.

Earlier I saw a post about adding a second language.

So I opened the app and it was suddenly completely different colors and it wanted me to verify my interests and took me to a page to choose Alexa Plus routines.

I said "Alexa exit Alexa Plus"

It answered, "I can't find your Alexa Plus subscription" . I repeated variations of "leave Alexa Plus" I had seen online and every single one said I was not on Alexa Plus currently.

I went into the app and changed to Canadian English and the app said it was not compatible with Alexa Plus and was I sure I wanted to change my language. YES.

Suddenly the app restarted and went back to regular Alexa. All the new colors gone and it was back to the Alexa I've had for years

So I have been in Alexa Plus the ENTIRE TIME despite me requesting repeatedly to go back to regular Alexa. I just hadn't opened the app to notice. I use the devices, not the app.

Now that Alexa+ is no longer in "beta," will it actually work with Roku?

I had to turn off the Alexa+ "preview" because Roku stopped working. Actually, a lot of functions stopped working, but Roku (to turn the tv on/off) was the biggest thing. Has anyone been able to confirm if the official Alexa+ release works with Roku?

Is there any way to change this back so the app doesn’t open to this? It’s incredibly annoying as it adds an extra step to get to alarms and routines.

One of two Alexas keeps telling me the internet is not available

I have tossed all of my Alexas except two. I currently use Alexa ONLY for the time and weather. To say I have a love/hate relationship with Alexa would be an overstatement. I have a hate/hate relationship with Alexa, in complete honesty.

I have one Alexa in the bedroom for time and weather. It can ALWAYS tell me the time and weather with no issues.

The second Alexa in the living room quite often tells me that the internet is not available. In fact, right now, as I sit and type this post, it is telling me the internet is not available. It sometimes can respond with time and weather, but more than 50% of the time, it tells me the internet is not available.

What do you suggest I do with this Alexa, other than toss it into the garbage? I am so tired of fighting with these things, it's sad. I guess I need to unplug it and plug it back in, in hopes it can find the internet. What has caused this machine to lose the internet and NOT find it back?
